VAKHITOVInstitute of Biochemistry and Genetics, Ufa Scientific Center of Russian Academy of SciencesThe full-size Pisum sativum lectin gene was cloned. The pea lectin, synthesized as a single polypeptide chain uncleaved prolectinin E. coli has shown functionality; under pre-treatment by this lectin Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae we have found giantnoninfection multilobed nodules not observed in control variants in roots of alfalfa. Thereby, this prolectin produced in the expressionprokaryotic system saves not only sugar binding properties, as well as also some their own physiological characteristics, causing specificnodulation reactions. Keywords: legume-rhizobial symbiosis, lectins, Pisum sativum.16
