Lives in Medicine Conference – August 23, 2014
The “Lives in Medicine Conference” took place on Saturday,
August 23, 2014, at the Polish Museum of America.
It was a full day conference with many interesting presentations
and workshops. Approximately 60 students and aspiring
healthcare professionals attended. The day included
various seminars about the medical school application process,
a small group mentoring lunch with college students
and health professionals and a resource fair featuring a dozen
medical organizations and institutions from around the
Midwest. The Keynote Address during the conference was
presented by a renowned Polish American surgeon, Maria
Siemionow, M.D., Ph.D. The purpose of the conference
was to create opportunities for aspiring students who are
ready “to step into the life of a healthcare professional and
strengthen their current position in the increasing competitive
applicant pool”.
The Society of Polish American Free Health Professionals
(SPAPP) is dedicated to helping students learn about
careers in healthcare and how to reach them. Its goal is to
“entice, foster, and support passion for medicine in young
Polish Americans through mentorship, scholarship, and opportunity”.
Connecting current with aspiring medical professionals
allows individuals interested in healthcare careers
with a better understanding of the profession. Organizing
the Lives in Medicine Conference helps young professionals
find careers that would fit their interests and passions
and provide reliable information on how to achieve their
goals.
The conference was organized by a strong team of young
prehealth professionals including Joanna P. Tomaszewski,
Marysia Szpindor Watson, Lukasz Sewera, Patricia Jamrozowicz,
Angelica Rusilowski, Martin Wrobel, Agata
Turowski, and Agatha Kielczewski.
