In Lexus terms, the LC stands forLuxury Coupe.The 2022 LC500 coupe powertrainchanges combined with extensivechassis tuning, delivering increasedbody reinforcement, lighter suspensioncomponents, and new electronic corneringassistance, have been "revised" forimproved stability and control-ability. Theavailable glass roof has been updatedfrom clear to privacy glass, and a 21-inchtwo-tone alloy-wheel design that targets amore aggressive look while also enhancingaerodynamic performance are nowstandard.We tested the LC500 5.0-litre V8 Coupe,pricing from $194,747 plus on-road cost,with the $15,000 Enhancement Pack option.(Enhancement Pack provides light-weightcarbon fibre additions and more focusedhandling changes). The LC providesoutstanding value before even turning awheel because its spectacular exterior lookslike a million dollars.Lexus LC is available in 10 differentcolours: White Nova, Slate Grey, Titanium,Graphite Black, Infrared, Carnelian, ZinniaYellow, Khaki Metal, Deep Blue, and SonicSilver.When I first saw the LC I thought of asamurai sword – sharp, shiny and refined.With a low-slung bonnet and sweeping roofline,the coupe looks capable of slicingthrough the air like a sword.Eye-catching exterior details includegrille, "arrowhead" LED headlights, andL-shaped tail-lamp clusters. Door handlesaerodynamically recessed within the doors(which have aluminium skin mounted oncarbon fibre structure) pop out in a V-shapeto grab when the car is unlocked.There is an optional Sport+ Packagethat adds an active rear spoiler whichautomatically deploys when speed exceeds80kmh and specifies carbon fibre reinforcedplastic for the roof.Not that the LC500h needs more helpwith street credibility. Also, howmany drivers I pass turn their heads andgawk? Seriously, nearly everyone stares atthis dream masquerading as a car.It has expansive wheel arches filledwith 21'' 10 spoke wheels, curves inwardsin its centre, and has an impressive bigrear end and wide shoulders around theinner passenger cabin. It looks interestingand sophisticated from every angle, with asubtle merging of glass and metal along thefastback look rear roof and window lines.This very interesting treatment is continuedin the interior with the glass look across thewhole dashboard.The Lexus LC isexotic-ness and unique.The car is very wellbalanced, with anextremely low centre ofgravity, engine mountedbehind the front axle,low weight, then allaroundindependentdouble joint multilinksuspension -all contribute to itshandling beautifully.
The Lexus 5.0-litre V8 is quick, poweringfrom standstill to 100km/h in 4.7 secondsflat, although its surprising ability to overspinthe rear wheels in anger might waste asplit-second when accelerating aggressively,and is agile. I find the gear ratios numbers 2,3, and 4 are stacked close to one another. Itdives into corners confidently and changesspeed/direction without any delay. It steerswith the exact amount of assistance needed.The steering wheel is terrific, too – handilysized, positioned just right, and a pleasureto hold. That is not an exaggeration, it is anunderstatement.On the road and highways, the test carbehaves like a prestige grand tourer –comfortable in any road/traffic situation.The boot cannot accommodate muchbaggage, even without a space-eating tyre(the car rides on run-flat tyres), with only 197litres.The LC500 cabin is beautifully designed,stylish decorated, and generously equipped.The interior is also very well-made, rightdown to the finishing of the carefully handsewnleather gear-shift knob. The cabin'slovely leather upholstery is accompanied byclassy Alcantara, which appears to drapefrom the door panels.All the controls are user-friendly andalmost all switches, menus/sub-menus,graphics, and alphanumeric would befamiliar to current Lexus owners.“Dash-ears” dashboard controls include two chunky knobs,sticking out from each side of the instrument panel cowling – one toselect drive mode and the other for traction/snow mode.The front seats are fantastic – attractive, plush, and supportive.The rear seats might look good but are pretty cramped.Service and warrantyThe LC500 is covered by Lexus’ four-year/unlimited-kilometrewarranty.
