• Prioritise the allocation of resources to surveillance
and data processing, particularly regarding nature
quality
• Increase afforestation efforts
• Make objectives for nature conservation quantifiable
and operational and to integrate nature considerations
into an overall strategy for future land use
The state of the aquatic environment has improved with the
implementation of three Danish Action Plans for the
Aquatic Environment. Presently, however, stagnation in the
historically positive development in the state of the aquatic
environment is observed. It is recommended to:
• Reassess the extent to which the present efforts of
the current third Danish Action Plan for the Aquatic
Environment are sufficient to meet the targets of the
EU Water Framework Directive
• Enhance focus of existing regulation to further address
phosphorus loads
• Prioritise sustainability in fisheries management
Within the areas of chemicals and waste there is a need for
further efforts regarding operational objectives in pesticide
regulation and increasing waste volumes. It is recommended
to:
• Reassess objectives related to frequency of pesticide
treatments
• Speed up assessments of chemical substances under
the new EU chemicals strategy (REACH)
• Reduce pressure on ground water resources by using
water purification instead of closing down wells,
when the contaminants in question have already
been banned
• Enhance focus and efforts to reduce waste volumes.
