Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD), d<strong>er</strong> ofte anvendes til at klassific<strong>er</strong>e sygdomme<br />
<strong>og</strong> psykiatriske lidels<strong>er</strong> (Bilag 2).<br />
Depression <strong>er</strong> blevet vurd<strong>er</strong>et på mange forskellige måd<strong>er</strong> i studi<strong>er</strong>ne, blandt andet ved hjælp<br />
af struktur<strong>er</strong>ede <strong>og</strong> ustruktur<strong>er</strong>ede int<strong>er</strong>views ell<strong>er</strong> ud fra tests, såsom BDI. Sidstnævnte <strong>er</strong><br />
blevet standardis<strong>er</strong>et på en befolkningsgruppe <strong>med</strong> psykiatriske lidels<strong>er</strong>. Eft<strong>er</strong>som et af<br />
eksklusionskrit<strong>er</strong>i<strong>er</strong>ne var alvorlige fysiske lidels<strong>er</strong>, kan d<strong>er</strong> sættes spørgsmålstegn ved, om<br />
denne test <strong>er</strong> egnet til at diagnostic<strong>er</strong>e depression hos patient<strong>er</strong> <strong>med</strong> sm<strong>er</strong>t<strong>er</strong> som følge af<br />
sygdom.<br />
Et andet relevant spørgsmål <strong>er</strong>, hvordan det forhold<strong>er</strong> sig mellem depression <strong>og</strong> henholdsvis<br />
akut <strong>og</strong> kronisk sm<strong>er</strong>te. Det vis<strong>er</strong> sig, at depression <strong>er</strong> m<strong>er</strong>e hyppig blandt patient<strong>er</strong> <strong>med</strong><br />
kronisk LBP end akut LBP. D<strong>er</strong><strong>med</strong> kan resultat<strong>er</strong>ne af studi<strong>er</strong>ne vari<strong>er</strong>e, alt afhængig af om<br />
patientgruppen har henholdsvis akutte ell<strong>er</strong> kroniske sm<strong>er</strong>t<strong>er</strong> (ibid).<br />
I et kvantitativt studie fra 2004 und<strong>er</strong>søges det, hvor præcise fysiot<strong>er</strong>apeut<strong>er</strong> <strong>er</strong> til at screene<br />
for depressive symptom<strong>er</strong> blandt d<strong>er</strong>es patient<strong>er</strong> <strong>med</strong> LBP. Baggrunden for und<strong>er</strong>søgelsen <strong>er</strong><br />
tidlig<strong>er</strong>e studi<strong>er</strong>, som har påvist, at depression <strong>er</strong> <strong>med</strong> til at forværre pr<strong>og</strong>nosen for LBP. 68<br />
fysiot<strong>er</strong>apeut<strong>er</strong> <strong>og</strong> 232 patient<strong>er</strong> <strong>med</strong> LBP delt<strong>og</strong>. Inden patient<strong>er</strong>ne gennemgik den fysiot<strong>er</strong>a-<br />
peutiske und<strong>er</strong>søgelse, blev de bedt om at udfylde spørgeskemaet Depression Anxiety Stress<br />
Scales (DASS), d<strong>er</strong> <strong>er</strong> designet til at måle de negative affektive tilstande for henholdsvis<br />
depression, angst <strong>og</strong> stress. Resultatet af DASS blev brugt som ref<strong>er</strong>encepunkt. Patient<strong>er</strong>ne<br />
skulle ligeledes udfylde en to-punkts screening test fra The Primary Care Evaluation of<br />
Mental Disord<strong>er</strong>s, som bestod af to korte spørgsmål vedrørende depressiv tilstand <strong>og</strong><br />
manglende evne til at føle glæde. Fysiot<strong>er</strong>apeut<strong>er</strong>ne blev bedt om at evalu<strong>er</strong>e d<strong>er</strong>es patient ud<br />
fra en 0 – 10 visuel anal<strong>og</strong> skala, hvor 0 = ”slet ikke deprim<strong>er</strong>et” <strong>og</strong> 10 = ”ekstremt depri-<br />
m<strong>er</strong>et”. Resultatet viste, at fysiot<strong>er</strong>apeut<strong>er</strong>ne gen<strong>er</strong>elt ikke var særligt præcise til at screene<br />
d<strong>er</strong>es patient<strong>er</strong> for depression samt at to-punkts screening testen var m<strong>er</strong>e præcis, hvad angår<br />
screening af depressive symptom<strong>er</strong>. Studiet opfordr<strong>er</strong> til, at to-punkts screening testen<br />
indføres i den fysiot<strong>er</strong>apeutiske praksis, fordi depression <strong>er</strong> indikator for en dårlig pr<strong>og</strong>nose.<br />
