Tunnel 6/2006
2.5 Fertigstellen des
Bauwerks
Nachdem die Röhre im vorbereiteten
Bett auf dem Flussgrund
vorangetrieben wurde,
wird sie vergleichbar einem
Absenktunnel eingeschüttet
und erhält damit ihre endgültige
Bettung und Schutz gegen
äußere Einwirkungen.
3 Argumente für
TIMBY
Scheidet der Bau einer
Brücke oder eines gebohrten
Tunnels aus, da z. B.
aus Platzgründen längere
Auffahrrampen nicht realisiert
werden können, bietet sich
TIMBY als Alternative an: Die
Zufahrt zu einem TIMBY-Tunnel
kann vergleichsweise Platz sparend
gebaut werden. Ebenfalls
im Uferbereich werden gegenüber
der Absenkbauweise
eines Tunnels die Dockanlagen
und die Anlagen zur Fertigung
der Caissons eingespart. Weiterhin
ermöglicht TIMBY als
kontinuierliches Verfahren eine
nicht unbedeutende Verkürzung
der Bauzeit. Da bei
diesem Verfahren das Einschleppen
und Setzen von
Caissons entfällt, reduzieren
sich außerdem die Störungen
des Schiffsverkehrs deutlich.
Dies gilt umso mehr, als für
den TIMBY-Tunnel in der Regel
weniger vorgängige Baggerarbeiten
an der Trasse durchgeführt
werden müssen.
In der Summe stellt TIMBY
eine attraktive Alternative zu
den bekannten Möglichkeiten
dar, Infrastrukturlösungen zu
schaffen, die notwendige Querungen
von Flüssen oder Meerengen
ermöglichen. Je nach
Ausgangssituation und Anforderungen
kann TIMBY Antworten
in Aussicht stellen auf
Fragen, die von Brücken, gebohrten
oder abgesenkten
Tunnelbauwerken nicht oder
nicht zufrieden stellend beantwortet
werden können.
Development
fi ll is permanent, drain tubes, cable
channels or other installations
can also be placed in this area.
This invert fi ll area is also the section
where the ballast wagon on
top of the tunnel tube is located
to provide compensation for the
uplift even at the very beginning
of the invert fi ll procedure (Fig. 5).
2.4 Advancing the Back-up
After one invert fi ll chamber
has been completed, new auxiliary
rails for the gantry wagons
can be installed and the entire
back-up can be moved forward
by three rings. This process fi -
nalises one cycle and is repeated
until the TIMBY machine
reaches the target shaft.
2.5 Completing the Tunnel
After the tunnel tube has
been erected in the excavated
trench on the riverbed, the tube
is backfi lled in similar fashion to
an immersed tube tunnel creating
the fi nal cover and protection
against outer impacts.
3 Why use TIMBY?
If for example due to local
space restrictions a bridge
or bored tunnel is not an option
because it requires longer
ramps, TIMBY could be an interesting
alternative. The access
ramps can be shorter and a
large construction space for dry
docks is not necessary. As a continuous
process, the TIMBY concept
considerably shortens the construction
time. Furthermore the restrictions
for ongoing ship traffi c
are signifi cantly less compared to
a classical immersed tube which
involves placing the caissons and
more extensive dredging work.
Considering all aspects, TIMBY
represents an interesting alternative
to existing possibilities for
creating infrastructural solutions
for river and strait crossings.
Depending on the starting situation
and requirements TIMBY
can give rise to opportunities,
which bridges, bored or immersed
tunnels cannot provide.
