The seminar will discuss the history of film technology and how it<br />
influenced what a film is, and how audiences perceived it (then<br />
and now). The topics covered will range from image forming<br />
technologies to film production and post-production processes in<br />
the analog and in the digital world: These are interwoven histories<br />
that challenge the way “a film” or a “motion picture” is defined,<br />
understood, interpreted and considered now and along film<br />
history. It is a complex scenario that has been changing ever since<br />
and that has a deep impact on film experience, appreciation and<br />
studies to the the point that we might conclude that not always a<br />
film is a film is a film. It can be something else.<br />
Nicola Mazzanti ist Direktor der Cinématèque Royale Belgien,<br />
Präsident des Verbunds der europäischen Filmarchive ACE<br />
(Association des Cinématèques Européennes), Mitbegründer des<br />
historischen Filmfestivals “Il Cinema Ritrovato”, sowie Gründer und<br />
ehemaliger Leiter des Labors für Filmrestaurierung “L’Immagine<br />
Ritrovata” in Bologna.<br />
Das Seminar findet in englischer Sprache statt; es wird ausreichend<br />
Gelegenheit für Nachfragen und Übersetzung gegeben<br />
werden.<br />
Empfohlen für Studierende ab dem 4.Semester<br />
Das Seminar muss zusammen mit dem Seminar und der Übung<br />
„Filmgeschichte von den Anfängen bis zu den 1950er Jahren“ besucht<br />
