Leider sind in unserer Welt sowohl die materiellen als auch
die immateriellen Ressourcen ungleich verteilt. Für rund eine
Milliarde Menschen – also jeden Siebten – ist es keine Selbstverständlichkeit,
ein Dach über dem Kopf zu haben, Lesen und
Schreiben zu lernen oder täglich satt zu werden.
Mit der Arbeit der Hilti Foundation verfolgen wir das Ziel, sinnvolle
Rahmenbedingungen für möglichst viele Menschen zu
schaffen, um ihnen eine Chance zu bieten, aus eigener Kraft
zu nachhaltig besseren Lebensumständen zu gelangen. Dieses
Engagement können wir jedoch nicht allein, sondern nur
gemeinsam mit starken Partnern und kompetenten Netzwerken
wirkungsvoll vorantreiben.
Vor diesem Hintergrund freuen wir uns ganz besonders, dass
die Hilti Foundation im vergangenen Jahr ihre Kräfte mit den
Länderorganisationen der Hilti Gruppe vereint hat. Damit
konnten wir unser Wirkungsvermögen nicht nur weltweit auf
eine breitere Basis stellen, sondern unsere Engagements auch
auf lokaler Ebene verstärken. Mit diesem Schulterschluss und
dem grossen persönlichen Einsatz unserer Mitarbeitenden
gelang es, eine Vielzahl neuer Projekte zu initiieren. So bekamen
beispielsweise zahlreiche Familien in Indonesien, Hongkong
und Nordamerika ein Zuhause, Kinder in Panama erhielten neue
Klassenräume und die Flutopfer in Polen und auf den Philippinen
hilfreiche Spenden.
Die Auflistung liesse sich weiter ergänzen und eines dieser
wunderbaren Projekte stellen wir im vorliegenden Jahresbericht
vor. Doch die Besonderheit liegt in der hohen Motivation der
Hilti Mitarbeitenden, die uns stolz macht und unsere Arbeit mit
Begeisterung und Qualität bereichert.
Stolz sind wir auch auf die internationale Anerkennung unserer
langjährigen Kooperationspartner:
Das Magazin „Global Journal“ wählte Ashoka und Ärzte ohne
Grenzen unter die 100 besten NGOs der Welt. Die Vereinigung
Ärzte für Menschenrechte, Israel (PHRI) wurde in Würdigung
ihrer Arbeit für Frieden und Verständigung zwischen Israel und
Palästina von der Organisation Parents Circle mit dem „Preis
für Versöhnung“ ausgezeichnet. Build Change, eine auf
erdbebensicheres Bauen in Entwicklungsländern spezialisierte
Organisation, erhielt den Lemelson-MIT-Preis für Nachhaltigkeit
vom Massachusetts Institut für Technologie. Und Elizabeth
Hausler, die Gründerin von Build Change, wurde von der Schwab
Stiftung für ihr soziales und unternehmerisches Denken zur
Sozialunternehmerin des Jahres 2011 gewählt.
Diese Erfolge sind uns Ansporn und Motivation, unsere Projekte
auch künftig mit hohem Engagement weiterzuführen. So werden
wir beispielsweise die Entwicklung von alternativen Baustoffen
zur Senkung der Wohnraumkosten vorantreiben und weiterhin
engagierte Social Entrepreneurs mit innovativen Lösungsansätzen
zur Bekämpfung von gesellschaftlichen Problemen
unterstützen.
Unsere Arbeit inspiriert uns täglich immer wieder mit neuen
Ideen und kreativen Ansätzen und wir freuen uns auch im
laufenden Jahr auf die Zusammenarbeit mit unseren Partnern,
Projektmanagern und Mitarbeitenden. Sie alle tragen dazu bei,
dass wir unserem gemeinsamen Ziel, eine bessere Zukunft zu
bauen, Schritt für Schritt näherkommen.

The tangible as well as intangible resources in our world are
unfortunately unequally distributed. For roughly one billion
people – i.e. one person out of seven – just having a roof over
their heads, learning to read and write, or being well-fed day to
day are not commonplace.
The activities of the Hilti Foundation are aimed at pursuing the
objective of creating reasonable general conditions for as many
people as possible, paving the way for the opportunity to
achieve a sustainably better standard of living by their own
efforts. However, we cannot effectively forge ahead with such
a commitment all alone, but rather only together with strong
partners and competent networks.
Against this backdrop, we are especially pleased that the Hilti
Foundation joined forces with the local country organizations of
Hilti Group in the past year. Hence, we succeeded in underpinning
our potential impact across a broader base worldwide, as
well as in strengthening our commitments at the local level too.
Such solidarity and the significant personal dedication on the
part of our employees enabled us to initiate many new projects.
For instance, numerous families in Indonesia, Hong Kong and
North America could take up residence in their new homes,
children in Panama moved into new classrooms, and flood
victims in Poland and the Philippines received helpful donations.
This list is not exhaustive, and we highlight just one of these
wonderful projects in this Annual Report 2011. But the special
factor stems from the strong motivation exhibited by the Hilti
employees, who make us proud and enrich our activities with
enthusiasm and quality.
We are also proud of the international recognition of our longstanding
collaborative partners:
Global Journal magazine selected Ashoka and Doctors Without
Borders as among the world’s 100 best non-governmental organizations
(NGOs). Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (PHRI)
was granted the Parents Circle’s 2001 Reconciliation Award
to honor the organization’s efforts toward achieving peace and
mutual understanding between the Israelis and Palestinians.
Build Change – an organization that specializes in constructing
earthquake-proof buildings in developing countries – was
presented with the Lemelson-MIT Award for Sustainability from
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Finally, Elizabeth
Hausler, the founder of Build Change, was named as Social
Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 by the Schwab Foundation for her
social and entrepreneurial spirit.
These success stories provide the impetus and motivation to
forge ahead with our projects with the same strong commitment
in the future too. Hence, we will move forward with the development
of alternative construction materials aimed at reducing
housing costs, and continue to provide support to dedicated
social entrepreneurs seeking innovative methods for resolving
society’s problems.
Our work continues to inspire us again and again, day after
day, sparking new ideas and creative approaches. And we are
looking forward to further collaboration with our partners,
project managers and employees in the current year as well.
You all contribute to achieving our common objective aimed at
building a better future – step by step.
