Programme for Handicapped Radio Amateurs (IPHA)

This programme concerned with
gathering informations about:
- Organisations for disabled radioamateurs.
- Special courses and methods for
preparing disabled people for the
examinations required to obtain a
radio-amateurs.
-
- Details about equipment that was
designed for use by amateurs with
various handicaps.
The following societies have an organization
for disabled Amateurs:
ARA, BFRA, DARC, EARA, EDR, ERAU,
HRS, IARC, MRASZ, NRRL, OEVSV,
RAAG, RAL, ROARS, SARL, SRAL, SSA,
UNARAF, URA, VERON.
Number of disabled Amateurs in
IARU region 1 based on the survey
is 511 disabled Amateurs divided
according Graph 1 below. The total
number of disabled amateurs in
IARU Region 1 remains unclear and
further verification is ongoing to confirm
the available count and get further
information from the remaining
Societies. Most organizations offer
special courses to disabled amateurs
and have special arrangements with
the local Authorities.
On the 3 of December each year
IPHA commemorate the International
Day of Persons with Disabilities.
International Day of Persons with
Disabilities (IDPwD) was established
in 1992 by the United Nations General
Assembly to promote awareness
of disability issues and the abilities
of people with disability.
In this celebration each Society can
promote this event by:
• Plan and organize performances
everywhere to showcase - and celebrate,
interests and aspirations
of persons with disabilities
• Offer radio equipements for the
Persons with Disabilities

• The media have especially important
contributions to make in support
of the observance of the Day
• Contest Day
• Award for best video
Every year there has been a particular
theme for observances, activities,
and actions. This year (2012) the
theme was “Removing barriers to
create an inclusive and accessible
society for all”.
Many Societies every year commemorate
this event, last year (2011)
two societies was active VERON
(Netherlands) and ROARS (Oman).
This year (2012) only one society has
participated to commemorate this
event Wakefield District Radio Society.
Amateur Radio seemed to be an
ideal way to publicise and celebrate
the day to a world-wide, though specialist,
audience. As Radio Amateurs
we privileged to enjoy an inclusive
hobby where, to a large extent, disability
need not be a barrier to participation.
Indeed, the spirit of the
hobby and its’ adherents has always
been to encourage the participation
of all, by providing help, support,
and technology in order to overcome
any barriers that a person may
face due to their impediment(s) or
medical conditions.
Croatian Amateur Radio Association
was the organizer of the 15th ARDF
World Championships, held in September
2010 in Opatija, a city on the
Adriatic sea coast. During the championships
were held the first World
ARDF championships for the blind
radio amateurs. It was attended
by 19 radio amateurs from Bosnia
and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia,
Germany and the United States.
At the championships in the team
standings rated a total of 7 teams
from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and
Croatia.
