RAFAEL AMARGO OPENS
THE 10TH BALLET SEASON
ON THIS ITS ANNIVERSARY, the Mallorca Ballet Season has fashioned a top class programme, with first rate
companies from around the world and performances acclaimed throughout the six continents. The company of Rafael
Amargo has the responsibility of being the curtain-raiser and he will do so with a production inspired by the work of
Federico García Lorca, ‘A Poet in New York’, in which flamenco is mixed with contemporary tendencies ZU IHREM

There is a top flight programme
scheduled for the 10th Mallorca Ballet
Season, which starts on July 1. It
will be Rafael Amargo who has the
responsibility of being the curtainraiser
and he will do so with ‘A Poet
in New York’a production inspired by
the work of the same name by Federico
García Lorca, which won him the
Max Award for the Performing Arts
for the Best Male Dance Performance.
This flamenco production, in
which there is a fusion of the most
traditional with contemporary tendencies,
both in the choreography
and in the music (jazz and latin
rhythms), presents twelve dancers,
seven musicians and two singers.
Juan Estelrich, who created the
audiovisuals especially for this production,
shares the artistic direction
with Rafael Amargo.
High standards and virtuosity are two
of the trademarks that define Angel
Corella & Stars of American Ballet,
who will bring ten of their best
dancers to perform pieces such as
‘Stars and Stripes’, ‘Apollo’ and
‘Quixote Suite’ among others on
August 20 at the Auditorium (the set-

ting for all the season’s productions).
On September 24, Compañía Antonio
Marquez will perform ‘Prelude’,
‘Zapateado’ and ‘Flamenco Wedding’.

Ein Luxus-Programm für die 10.
Mallorca Balletsaison, welche am 1.
Juli beginnt. Rafael Amargo eröffnet
die Saison mit ‘Poeta en Nueva York’,
einem Stück, das vom gleichnamigen
Werk Federico Garcia Lorcas inspiriert
ist, in der Inszenierung, die ihm
dem Max Theater Preis für den
besten männlichen Tanz-Interpreten
eingebracht hat.
Dieses Flamenco-Stück, in dem sich
das traditionelle mit zeitgenössischen
Tendenzen vermischt, sowohl in der
Choreografie wie auch in der Musik
(Jazz und Latin), wird von 12 Tänzern,
sieben Musikern und zwei Sängern
vorgetragen. Juan Estelrich, der
für diese Aufführung eine spezielle
audiovisuelle Montage geschaffen
hat, teilt sich die Bühnenregie mit
Rafael Amargo. Qualität und Virtuosität
sind die zwei Faktoren, die das
American Ballet von Angel Corella
auszeichnen, der mit 10 seiner besten
Tänzer am 20. August im Auditorium
(Ort aller Veranstaltungen in dieser
Saison) unter anderem die Stücke
‘Barras y estrellas’, ‘Apollo’ und
‘Suite de Quijote’ aufführen wird.
Am 24 September tanzt das Ensemble

AT THE AUDITÒRIUM
In addition to the 10th Mallorca
Ballet Season, the Auditorium will
also stage three performances of
ballets that can boast of being
among the most acclaimed of all
time: ‘Swan Lake’, ‘Giselle’ and
‘The Sleeping Beauty’. The three
productions will be performed by
the Hermitage Theatre Ballet of St.
Petersburg, one of the best known
companies in Russia and one of
those that makes the most international
tours. Their first performance
in Palma, ‘Swan Lake’, will
take place on August 8. This will
be followed by ‘Giselle’ on August
9 and The Sleeping Beauty’ on
August 10.
All the directors and masters of
the Company have studied at the
Vaganova Academy, which has
produced some of the most
important figures in the world of
ballet of all time and which recently
celebrated its 250th anniversary.

Unabhängig von der 10. Mallorca
Balletsaison, ist das Auditorium
Bühne drei weiterer Tanzaufführungen,
die zu den erfolgreichsten der
Geschichte zählen: ‘El lago de los
cisnes’, ‘Giselle’ y ‘La bella durmiente’.
Alle drei Stücke werden
vom Ballet des Theaters der Eremitage
von Sankt Petersburg präsentiert,
eines der berühmtesten
Ensembles Russlands.
Die erste Aufführung ‘El Lago de
los cisnes’ findet am 8. August
statt. Darauf folgen ‘Giselle’ am 9.
und ‘La bella durmiente’ am
10.August.
Alle Direktoren und Meister dieses
Ensembles haben die Vaganova
Akademie durchlaufen, die einige
der bedeutendsten Tänzer aller Zeiten
hervorgebracht hat und deren
Gründung sich vor kurzem zum
250. Mal jährte.
