Gent – ein echter belgischer Diamant
Ghent – a genuine Belgian diamond
UPDATE
Gleiche Bremsbeläge bei allen neuen Aktuatoren
All new actuators have the same brake pads
Helen Cleary. Im Mittelalter war
Gent, die Hauptstadt der belgischen
Provinz Ostflandern, eine
der reichsten und größten Metropolen
nördlich der Alpen, die nur
von Paris übertroffen wurde.
Heute ist die Stadt immer noch eines
der wichtigsten Handels- und
Exportzentren in der Nordsee-
Region. Der mittelalterliche Baustil
ist auf einmalige Art und Weise
erhalten geblieben. Das
Stadtzentrum gleicht einer Vitrine
flämischen Wohlstands und Wirtschaftserfolgs.
Keine andere
Stadt in Belgien besitzt so viele
unter Denkmalschutz stehende
Bauten. Neben zwei mittelalterlichen
Burgen findet man fünf Abteien,
Dutzende von Kirchen und
Museen und drei Beginenhöfe.
Gent liegt am Zusammenfluß von
Leie und Schelde. Die Flüsse und
Kanäle, die die Innenstadt durchkreuzen,
teilen die Stadt in ein
Mosaik von kleinen Inseln, die
durch ein Netzwerk von ungefähr
zweihundert Brücken untereinander
verbunden sind. Die
monumentalste dieser Brücken,
die St. Michael Brücke, gewährt
einen herrlichen Ausblick auf die
berühmte Genter Turmreihe: St.
Nikolaus Kirche, Belfried und St.
Bavo Kathedrale.
Die Wasserläufe der Stadt
fließen zum ehemaligen Hafen
an der Graslei. Die eleganten
Fassaden der Graslei und der
Korenlei auf der gegenüberliegenden
Seite der Leie vertreten
alle Stilrichtungen von der Gotik
über den Barock bis zum Art déco.
Von hier ist es nicht weit zum
Grafenschloß, einst die mittelalterliche
Festung der Grafen von
Flandern. Hier mutet die Fußbodenheizung
im Rittersaal vielleicht
etwas untypisch an, dafür
wird es im Schloßgefängnis mit
Folterkeller und feuchten Wänden
um so realistischer und ungemütlicher.
In den Restaurants im nahegelegenen
„Patershol“ im ältesten
Viertel der Stadt wird noch im
Sinne guter flämischer Tradition
gekocht.
Gent lädt zum Spaziergang
durch die politische und kulturelle
Geschichte Europas ein. Vor fünfhundert
Jahren erblickte hier Kaiser
Karl V. das Licht der Welt, ein
Ereignis, das derzeit europaweit
gefeiert wird. Auch die Stadt
Gent veranstaltet bis zum 25. Juni
2000 zahlreiche Ausstellungen,
Festlichkeiten, Umzüge und Kolloquien
zu Ehren ihres berühmtesten
Sohnes unter dem Motto
„Gent 1500 - 2000”.
Für Blumenliebhaber hält Gent
eine ganz besondere Augenfreude
in diesem Jahr bereit: Auf der
„Floralies Gantoises 2000” können
sie ihrer Leidenschaft wahrhaftig
frönen; hier wartet auf einer
Fläche von 43.000 m 2 eine
atemberaubende Farbenpracht
nicht nur mit den herrlichen Be-
gonien und Azaleen der Region,
sondern auch mit gewagten
Kreationen der weltweit berühmtesten
Zierkünstler.
In einer Stadt, deren Bürger so
viel Wert auf das gute Leben
legen, mangelt es nicht an ausgesuchten
Geschäften und exklusiven
Boutiquen, an ausgefallenen
Antiquitätenläden und verführerischen
Patisserien, in denen man
ein Diamantenhalsband aus Kandiszucker
ergattern kann, wenn
schon nicht ein echtes.
Helen Cleary. In the Middle
Ages, Ghent, the capital of the
Belgian province of East Flanders,
was one of the largest and richest
cities north of the Alps, surpassed
only by Paris. Today the city is still
one of the foremost trading and
export centres in the North Sea
region. Yet, at the same time, the
Middle Ages have been preserved
in a unique way, combining
an impressive past with a dynamic
present. The city centre is a showcase
of mediaeval Flemish wealth
and commercial success. No city
in Belgium has so many monuments
under preservation order,
including two mediaeval castles,
five abbeys, dozens of churches
and museums and three beguinages.
The city lies at the confluence of
the Lys and the Scheldt. The rivers
and canals traversing the city divide
it into a patchwork of small
islands, which are connected by a
network of about 200 bridges.
The most impressive of these is St.
Michael’s Bridge which affords a
beautiful view of the famous Gent
towers: St Nicholas’s Church, the
Belfry and St. Bavo’s Cathedral.
The waterways of the city all flow
towards the former port at the
Graslei. The elegant facades of
the Graslei and the Korenlei on
the opposite side of the Lys represent
different architectural styles
from Gothic to baroque to art deco.
Not far away, the Castle of the
Counts arises, once the mediaeval
fortress of the Counts of Flanders.
Don’t forget to visit the
Knights’ Hall. The underfloor heating
may appear rather out of
place, but the dungeon with its
torture chamber and damp walls
is certainly more realistic and less
inviting.
Close to the Castle of the Counts
you find the Patershol, the oldest
quarter of the city, renowned for
its excellent restaurants where you
can still sample wholesome Flemish
cuisine.
Visiting Ghent means strolling
through Europe’s political and
cultural history. It was here that
the Emperor Charles V was born
500 years ago, an event currently
being commemorated all over
Europe. The city of Ghent has also
organised a charming programme
of exhibitions, festivities,
processions and colloquia until
25. June, 2000 under the motto
“Ghent 1500 - 2000” to honour
its most famous citizen.
This year Ghent offers a very special
attraction for horticulturists at
the Floralies Gantoises 2000.
Daring creations from the world’s
most celebrated ornamental artists
are on display in a dazzling
array of colours on an area of
43,000 m 2 , alongside the magnificent
begonias and azaleas of
the region.
In a city where people like to enjoy
a good life there is no shortage
of select shops and exclusive
boutiques, quaint antique shops
and tempting patisseries where
you can pick up a diamond necklace
of rock candy if you cannot
afford the genuine article.
Gabor Josef Agardy. HANNING & KAHL Federspeicherbremssättel
HYS-20x und HYS-30x werden bereits in einer
Vielzahl von Varianten hergestellt und in Drehgestelle verschiedener
Waggonbauer eingebaut. Durch die flexible Konstruktion
nach dem Baukastenprinzip ist eine Anpassung an
die Drehgestellkonstruktion problemlos möglich. Trotz dieser
großen Variantenvielfalt sind die Hauptbaugruppen und Konstruktionsprinzipien
immer gleich und haben sich im Einsatz
bestens bewährt.
Die Bremsbeläge und die Bremsbelagbefestigung
machen hier
keine Ausnahme. Die Vorteile
sind überzeugend:
- einfacher und schneller Austausch
der Beläge
- hohe Sicherheit durch formschlüssige
Verliersicherung
- sichere Aufnahme der Bremskräfte
- unempfindlich bei thermischer
und mechanischer Belastung
- geringer Verschleiß durch definiertes
Lüften von der Bremsscheibe
- kein Schrägverschleiß bei Einrichtungsfahrzeugen,
weil richtungsunabhängige
Belagbefestigung
Bis vor kurzen konnten nicht alle
dieser überzeugenden Argumente
in den Aktiven Sätteln genutzt
werden. Das hat sich aber geändert:
die neue Generation Aktiver
Sättel wurde bei HANNING
& KAHL entwickelt:
Der neue Sattel HYA 26/50 ist
unseren Lesern und Kunden
schon bekannt. Seit der Einführung
wird er bereits in mehreren
Varianten gebaut und kommt
in verschiedenen Fahrzeugen in
deren Lauffahrwerk zum Einsatz.
Und hier die Besonderheit: die
Bremsbeläge sind die gleichen
wie in den Federspeicherbremssätteln,
d.h. in einer Straßenbahn
gibt es nur noch eine Art Bremsbelag.
Dadurch kommen für die Betreiber
der Straßenbahnen weitere
Vorteile der HANNING & KAHL
Bremsausrüstung hinzu:
- geringere Lagerhaltungskosten
- keine Verwechselungsgefahr
- verbesserte Verfügbarkeit.
Eine Entwicklung, die sich
rechnet!
Gabor Josef Agardy. The HANNING & KAHL spring-applied
brake calipers HYS-20x and HYS-30x are already being
produced in a number of different versions and are being
installed in bogies constructed by different car builders. Flexible
construction methods based on the module principle allows
adaptation to the bogie construction without any problems. In
spite of this large multiplicity of versions, the main components
and design principles are always the same and have proven
themselves time and time again in different deployment
instances.
The brake pads and the brake
pad fastening are no exception in
this respect. The advantages are
convincing:
- the pads can be replaced more
easily and faster
- held firmly in place by positive
locking
- safe breaking is guaranteed
- insensitive to thermal and
mechanical strain
- sufficient clearance from brake
disc guarantees low wear
- no one-sided wear in the case
of one-direction vehicles, as the
pads are fastened independently
of the direction
Up to recently, not all of these
convincing arguments could be
applied to the active calipers, but
this has now changed:
HANNING & KAHL has
developed a new generation of
active calipers:
Our readers and customers are
already familiar with the new HYA
26/50 caliper. Since it was
launched it has already been built
in several versions and is
deployed in the trailer bogie of
various vehicles. And what is
special about it: the brake pads
are the same as those in the
spring-applied brake calipers, in
other words, there is only one kind
of brake pad in a tram.
This adds to the advantages the
HANNING & KAHL brake
equipment offers tram operators:
- low storage costs
- no danger of getting the brake
pads mixed up
- enhanced availability.
A truly worthwhile development!
