The first thing to strike the imagination is the quality of the
light and the gentle landscapes. The pale golden sandbanks and
white tuff cliffs draw the eye of any cyclist keen to enjoy wide
open spaces.
Touraine is an area of many faces. There is the river and its
boatmen who plied the waters in flat-bottomed barges that have
been reconstructed by enthusiasts. There is the Touraine of the
winegrowers who, from Amboise to Bourgueil, store their wines
in cellars dug into the cliffs, an ideal place for refreshment.
There is the Touraine of the birds (shags, terns or herons) which
nest in a protected environment within the Loire-Anjou-Touraine country park.
And with each turn of the pedal, another château comes into view, drawing the
eye away from the chosen route.
Das besondere Licht und der liebliche Reiz der Landschaften überraschen
den Besucher. Der goldgelbe Sand, der strahlend weiße Tuffstein, die weiten
unberührten Flächen üben eine magische Anziehungskraft aus.
Mehrere Landschaftsbilder prägen die Touraine.
Der Fluß, auf dem einst «toues» (breite Boote) und «gabarres» (Lastkähne)
verkehrten, die heute von Freiwilligen rekonstruiert werden. Die von den Winzern
modellierten Weinberge, deren Produktion zwischen Amboise und Bourgueil in
kühlen Höhlenkellern zum Verkauf angeboten wird.
Wald und Flur, Heimat der Kormorane, Seeschwalben und Fischreiher, die im
Naturpark Loire-Anjou-Touraine einen idealen Lebensraum vorfinden.
Und nicht zuletzt die Schlösser, die an jeder Wegbiegung auf den Radler warten.
