(Muriel Gnehm,
Basler Zeitung 18.03.2013)
In his version of «Cinderella», a ballet which
was first performed in 1945, Stijn Celis follows
the general outline of the Grimms› fairy tale,
but adds a generous helping of irony to the
mix. This is expressed as much in the stepfamily,
performed by male dancers, as in the
choreography itself, in which he focuses less
on graceful and aesthetic movements than on
absurdity and humour. (Muriel Gnehm, Basler
Zeitung, 18.03.2013)
«Castrati» – die Männer mit den Engelsstimmen
– waren vom 16. bis ins 18. Jahrhundert
die Stars der Opernbühnen. Zustande kamen
diese Stimmenwunder durch Kastration vielversprechender
Chorknaben. «Sie scheinen
aus einem Guss zu sein, so virtuos und exakt
ist der Tanz der neun Männer, die mit ihren
fliegenden Röcken eine Dynamik entwickeln,
die vom ersten Moment an fasziniert. Fliessende,
schnelle Drehungen und fliegende
Sprünge wechseln mit kurzen, abrupten Bewegungen
und ziehen geradezu gewaltsam hinein
in den Strudel musikalischer Harmonie Antonio
Vivaldis.» (Isabell Steinböck, Dance for
you! Magazine, Nov / Dez 2005)
«Castrati» – men with angels’ voices – were the
stars of the opera houses from the 16 th until
well into the 18 th century. These vocal phenomena
were produced by castrating promising
choirboys. «Such is the virtuosity and precision
of these nine dancers that they appear to
be a single unit, developing a dynamism in
their flowing robes that enthrals and fascinates
from the outset. Fluid, rapid turns and
flying leaps interspersed with brief, abrupt
movements almost irresistibly draw the audience
into the vortex of Antonio Vivaldi’s musical
harmony.» (Isabell Steinböck, Dance for
you! Magazine, Nov / Dec 2005)
Patrick Delcroix
Dauer: 20 Min.
«Der Franzose Patrick Delcroix hat ‹tendre
aveu› den Basler Tänzerinnen und Tänzern auf
den Leib geschneidert. Unter der brillanten
Oberfläche scheinen Eigenwillen und Einsamkeit
auf. Die Paare verhaken ihre Glieder so
kunstvoll ineinander, bis es kaum noch weiterzugehen
scheint, und lösen sich überraschend
leicht mit dem Abstreifen einer Hand voneinander.
Die Sogwirkung, die von den fluktuierenden
Paarkonstellationen ausgeht, wird
durch Philip Glass’ Musik zum Film ‹The Hours›
noch verstärkt.» (Martina Wohlthat, Neue Zürcher
Zeitung, 24.3.2006)
«French choreographer Patrick Delcroix tailored
‹tendre aveu› to the dancers of the Basel
ensemble. Self-will and isolation creep forth
from under the glossy surface. The couples
intertwine their limbs elaborately until they
seem to be at a standstill, yet free themselves
surprisingly easily with a mere motion of the
hand. The fascination of the ever-changing
groupings is underpinned by the use of Philip
Glass’ music for the film ‹The Hours›.» (Martina
«Hier ist sie, die magische, kontemplative Choreographie,
die nichts erzählt. Das ist schlicht
und ergreifend schön. Zumal dann, wenn das
zu Hochform aufgelaufene Ballett Basel am
Werk ist.» (Elisabeth Feller, Basellandschaftliche
«This is magical, contemplative choreography
that doesn’t tell a story. It is movingly beautiful
in ist simplicity. Particularly when performed
by a Ballett Basel company at the very
peak of its form.» (Elisabeth Feller, Basellandschaftliche
