Communication is a key aspect of associate development. The
support and supervision of each associate is based upon structured
discussions and setting long-term development objectives.
The Individual Development Discussion (MEG)
At the request of the associate, a supervisor, or the
HR department, a separate MEG can be held every
two to three years in order to address the associate’s
professional development. During the meeting, the
associate presents his ideas about his personal career
goals for the next three to five years and discusses
with the other participants how they can be achieved.
One of the aims of this discussion is to ensure that the
associate’s self-assessment and the evaluations of the
supervisor and/or HR department are as close to each
other as possible. This analysis of goals, strengths and
potential for promotion produces realistic development
objectives and indicates what development instruments
are appropriate. These could include transfer to a new
functional area, the adoption of a new task or specific
position, or long-term development in the associate’s
current area.
