iREMOintelligent REactive polymer compositesMOuldingFiber-reinforced composites are lightand robust. That’s why they can befound today in various products (cars, boats, aircrafts and even bridges). However, the production process comprisesseveral uncertainties. As a result, thescrap rate during production is comparativelyhigh. In addition, the design ofproducts is affected by safety margins. Objective of iREMO is the developmentof a sensor-based environment for themonitoring and control of an importantstep in production: The curing of the resinwhich is brought into mouldings. Theaim is to derive corrective actions (e.g.cooling certain areas of a moulding)by measuring the temperature and theviscosity of the resin.(EU, NMP, 09/2009-08/2012)ISUSAdvanced stowage and handlingtechnology for steel productsThe handling of steel sheets is dominatedby classical, mechanical loadhandling attachments which usuallyconsist of hooks, chains, ropes and belts. These attachments are comparativelyheavy and bulky, but are convincingregarding design, quality and reliability. However, this technology offers very littlepotential for innovation and processoptimization. The research focuses on the developmentof innovative magnet systemsregarding the above mentioned boundaries, restrictions and requirements.Typical handling problems will be solvedand the necessity for permanent maintenancewill be reduced. Altogether, thehandling of steel products will be faster, safer and gentler to material.(BMWi, 11/2009-11/2012)LaboranovaCollaboration Environment for StrategicInnovationThe project „Laboranova – CollaborationEnvironment for Strategic Innovation“focusses on the early stage of innovation.Laboranova aims to support existingsocio-technological and collaborativeinfrastructures for the systematicgeneration, utilization and evaluation ofinnovative ideas.Laboranova’s concept is the research, development and evaluation of modelsand tools in three innovation relatedareas. These areas include the ideageneration, the connection of contactsand knowledge objects and the ideaevaluation. The methods and tools developed byLaboranova will support open innovationprocesses, especially in “Living Labs”.(EU, FP6-ICT, 06/2006-06/2010)Landmarke (Landmarks)Navigation of rescue teams in fireoperationsThe goal of this project is to providefirefighters with quick and reliableinformation on the situation in smokyand unsafe environments. The firefighterswill be offered an infrastructure thatallows them to establish a dynamicallyaccumulatively ad-hoc reference system.Landmarks are distributable units, which contains sensor- and transferencetechnology. So they are interactivecomponents that communicate with asystem. Positioned at certain points, theyact as navigational devices and assigndifferent light signals through the path tothe next landmark. Interactive modulesinside the jackets of the forces will allowthe remote control of the landmarks.(BMBF, 05/2008-04/2011)Learning pallets as feasible autonomouslogistics objectsAutonomous logistics objects and processesneed to become more feasiblein practice. Intelligent pallets in a pullprinciple material flow have the abilityto learn from the past. This capabilityspurned the idea of learning pallets thatundertake autonomous control duties. They can render their decisions basedon old and current information, accordingto the global or local goals. Thesupporting methodology for analyzingand making decisions is quite crucial.Mostly, application of the learning palletscould be on shop-floors, or even in externallogistics, likewise with pull systems.(Kieserling Stiftung, 07/2008-07/2011)LogGlobalImproving Global Supply ChainsInformation concerning capabilitiesand employment level are not appropriatelyexchanged by productionand transportation processes in orderto determine most effective plans. Therefore, cost and lead-time savingsobtained with new global manufacturingstrategies might be impaired due to anunbalanced and unstable integrationof manufacturing and logistics. Theresearch focuses on improving informationalinterfaces between distributed manufacturingand logistic systems alongglobal supply chains. Together, theGerman and Brazilian research subprojectswill contribute to the developmentof concepts, methods and technologiesthat support a balanced integration ofmanufacturing and logistics.(CAPES und FINEP, DFG, 06/2009-05/2011)LogistikfabriktischThe BIBA-division “Logistics Factory”works on a multimedia-based tool toillustrate logistics processes. The focusfirst lies on the GVZ logistic center inBremen. First, all logistics intersectionswill be defined. Then, those intersectionswill be implemented in variable depthon the multitouch “Logistikfabriktisch”.Each layer contains different multimedia-based objects like films, photos or text. With the aid of these different detailinglayers, the complex content can bepresented rather simplified. The samecontent will be inaugurated on a websitein order to uncouple the presentationfrom the physical presence of the”Logistikfabriktisch”. The continued aimis to create a planning tool out of theLogistikfabriktisch.(WFB Bremen, 12/2009-11/2010)LogPRoLogistic planning and schedulingsystems of RoRo- and ConRo-PortsThe object of investigation in this projectis the comprehensive planning andscheduling of order processing in automotivelogistics at a seaport automobileterminal by developing a common, ITbasedcontrol centre. The transparencyof relevant planning information shouldbe increased for all process partners. The main tasks are the development ofan integrated planning and schedulingconcept for terminal and transportationservices and a simulation study to validatethis concept.(BMWi, 07/2008-06/2010)Projects43
