AUSTRIAEXPORT granulate into EPS blocks or preforms (commonly known as Styrofoam). depending on the design, EPS can insulate, absorb shocks, repel moisture, resist pressure; it can also be formed into complex shapes or given a wide spectrum of colours. the main uses of Sunpor EPS are packaging and insulating board for the world’s construction industry. a number of different varieties are suitable for specific requirements. Economical use of energy is becoming increasingly important, and the demand for high-quality building insulation with it. another growth engine has come into being over the past years, the “new markets” of central and East Europe. about 85% of total production is exported to other European countries and the Far East. Reststofftechnik GesmbH of Henndorf, Salzburg, were founded in 1991 for the purpose of developing collection and disposal systems that are suitable for waste packaging. the scope of the young company’s activities grew with the demands put on it, and this eventually led to its work for a few communities: establishing and servicing recycling centres, many of which were just being built at the time; developing disposal concepts for businesses in all sectors; and searching for recycling methods for waste materials, as the raw materials produced after they are treated possess a great deal of economic potential. In addition to the classic activities relating to disposal, the company’s main focus is material utilisation of refuse. of the 60,000 metric tons that are collected each year, only about 6,000 are incinerated. a noteworthy event in the disposal industry was the construction of Europe’s most © Sunpor Sunpor turn Styrofoam into climate-friendly insulation for buildings and packaging that is both strong and light as a feather. Sunpor entwickelt landläufiges „Styropor“ zum klimaschonenden Super-Dämmer in Gebäuden wie auch zur ebenso robusten wie federleichten Produktverpackung. reich taumittel und Feinstaubbinder. dieses unternehmen befindet sich mehrheitlich im besitz der chemson Gruppe. die Produktion von cm austrosafe erfolgt in arnoldstein bei der chemson Polymer-additive aG. die Firma Sunpor mit Sitz in der niederösterreichischen Hauptstadt St. Pölten designt und produziert typen von EPS-Granulaten (expandierfähiges Polystyrol). die Kunden schäumen dann das Granulat zu EPS-blöcken oder Formteilen auf (landläufig „Styropor“). Je nach design wirkt EPS wärmedämmend, gleicht Erschütterungen aus, weist Feuchtigkeit ab, widersteht druck und Zug und nimmt komplexe Formen oder bunte Farben an. die Hauptanwendungen für EPS von Sunpor sind Wärmedämmplatten für die internationale bauwirtschaft und Verpackungen. Eine Vielzahl von typen wird spezifischen anforderungen gerecht. die bedeutung von sparsamem Energieeinsatz nimmt rasant zu, der bedarf an hochwertiger Gebäudedämmung ebenso. als weiterer Wachstumsmotor erweisen sich seit Jahren die „neuen märkte“ Zentral- und osteuropas. Rund 85 Prozent der Gesamtproduktion gehen in den Export in Europa und nach Fernost. die Firma Reststofftechnik GesmbH in Henndorf (Salzburg) wurde 1991 gegründet, um für den Verpackungsabfall geeignete Sammelsysteme und Entsorgungsschienen zu entwickeln. das aufgabengebiet wuchs mit den anforderungen, die an das junge unternehmen gestellt wurden. das unternehmen wurde Partner einiger Gemeinden beim aufbau und der betreuung der damals in vielen orten neu entstandenen Recyclinghöfe, entwickelte Entsorgungskonzepte für Gewerbebetriebe aller branchen und suchte Recyclingschienen für die anfallenden altstoffe, da in den altstoffen ein hohes Potenzial an Rohstoffen steckt, das nach verschiedenen behandlungsmethoden in den Wirtschaftskreislauf zurückgeführt werden kann. Neben den klassischen tätigkeiten als Entsorgungsbetrieb ist das Hauptziel des unternehmens die stoffliche Verwertung von abfällen. Von den 60.000 tonnen, die jährlich übernommen werden, gehen derzeit nur rund 6.000 tonnen in die müllverbrennung. das „meisterstück“ in der Entsorgungswirtschaft ist die Erfindung der modernsten PVc-Fensterproduktionsabfall- und PVc-altfensterrecyclinganlage Europas, die im märz 2006 in betrieb genommen wurde. damit erweiterte sich das Einzugsgebiet der Firma Reststofftechnik auf alle angrenzenden Nachbarstaaten. Etwa 25 km südlich von Graz produziert das steirische top-unternehmen Ecoplast Recyclate aus verschmutzten Polyethylen-Kunststoffabfällen von Folien, Rohren und Hohlkörpern. damit können für den „normalen Gebrauch“ unbrauchbare abfälle wieder in hochqualitative Neuprodukte „verwandelt“ werden. Heute bemühen sich mehr als 60 umweltorientierte mitarbeiter in Qualitätssicherung, Produktion, marketing und Verwaltung um die Wiederverwertung und Ressourcenschonung. die Recyclate haben auch das Österreichische Gütezeichen erhalten. Jährlich kann Ecoplast bis zu 25.000 tonnen altkunststoffe und Kunststoffabfälle zu Sekundärrohstoff aufbereiten. das unternehmen vermahlt nach unterschiedlichen Kunststoffarten sortierte Verpackungen und verarbeitet sie danach 12 www.advantageaustria.org 133/2009
Krems Chemie produce a wide range of intermediate products and fine chemicals for cosmetics, perfumes, paints, varnishes, pharmaceuticals, etc. Die Krems Chemie erzeugt ein breites Spektrum an Zwischenprodukten und Feinchemikalien für Kosmetika, Parfums, Farben, Lacke, Pharmazeutika etc. modern recycling plant for waste from the manufacture of PVc windows and used windows, which went into operation in march 2006. this entailed enlargement of the area from which Reststofftechnik obtain their waste to all neighbouring countries. approximately 25 kilometres south of Graz, Styria’s leading company, Ecoplast, produces recyclates from contaminated polyethylene waste from films, pipes and tubes. as a result, waste that is not suitable for “normal use” can be transformed into high-quality new products. at present, more than 60 environmentally conscious employees in quality assurance, manufacturing, marketing and administration are busy recycling and conserving resources. their recyclates have also received the austrian seal of quality. Ecoplast can turn up to 25,000 metric tons of used plastics and plastic waste into secondary raw materials each year. after sorting, packaging materials are pulverised separately and turned into new products or granulate. Ecoplast are continuing to invest in updating and improving their equipment, and together with other companies, have built a bioenergy plant run on maize from surrounding fields which supplies electricity to Styria’s grid. For more than a century now, DIC Performance Resins of Vienna have manufactured high-quality synthetic resins that are used in the paint, printing, automotive and pressure-sensitive adhesives industries. Just one focus of their research and development activities is surface engineering. In addition to traditional systems that contain solvents, dIc have also developed innovative products for solventfree coatings.
