Specification Systems – CEN (Euro-Norm) and DIN
AL CASTING ALLOYS
This is the specification for the 42000 permanent mould
casting alloy, solution treated and artificially aged.
1. EN = Standard for the relevant product
2. A = Aluminium
3. B = Al and Al alloy ingots for remelting
C = Castings
4. The 5-figure material number specifies the alloy.
The first figure is the main alloying element:
2xxxx Copper
4xxxx Silicon
5xxxx Magnesium
7xxxx Zinc
The second figure specifies the alloy type:
- 21xxx AlCu-Alloy
- 41xxx AlSiMgTi-Alloy
- 42xxx AlSi7Mg-Alloy
- 43xxx AlSi10Mg-Alloy
- 44xxx AlSi-Alloy
- 45xxx AlSiCu-Alloy
- 46xxx AlSi9Cu-Alloy
- 47xxx AlSi(Cu)-Alloy

The fourth and fifth numbers are generally 0.
5. Specification of the casting process:
S = Sand Casting
K = Permanent mould casting
D = High pressure die casting
L = Investment casting
6. Specification of material conditions:
F = As cast
O = Soft annealed
T1 = Controlled cooling after casting and
naturally aged
T4 = Solution treated and naturally aged,
where applicable
T5 = Controlled cooling after casting and
artificially aged or overaged
T6 = Solution and fully artificially aged
T64 = Solution treated and not fully artificially
aged – underaged
T7 = Solution and overaged (artificially aged,
stabilized condition)
