MG CASTING ALLOYS
With the exception of material number and the letter
„M” under 2 for magnesium, the system corresponds
with that for Al casting alloys.
Deviation under 4:
The 5-figure material number specifies the alloy.
The first figure is the main alloying element:
1xxxx Pure magnesium
2xxxx Aluminium
3xxxx Zinc
4xxxx Manganese
5xxxx Silicon
6xxxx Rare earth (RE)
7xxxx Zirconium
8xxxx Silver
9xxxx Yttrium
The second and third figures specify the
alloy type:
x11xx MgAlZn
x12xx MgAlMn
x13xx MgAlSi
x21xx MgZnCu
x51xx MgZnREZr
x52xx MgREAgZr
x53xx MgREYZr
The fourth figure is the number within
the alloy type (e. g.):
xxx1x first alloy
xxx2x second alloy
The fifth figure is 0 or the alloy variant.
DIN SPECIFICATIONS SYSTEM
A member of HONSEL INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES
DIN material numbers are specified in DIN 17007.
The first number being the main material group:
1. = Ferrous materials
2. = Heavy nonferrous metals
3. = Light metals
This is followed by the 4-figure type number:
0000 - 0999 = Al with low additions
1000 - 1999 = Al-Cu-Alloys
2000 - 2999 = Al-Si-Alloys
3000 - 3999 = Al-Mg-Alloys
4000 - 4999 = Al-Zn-Alloys
The material conditions are specified by appended
numbers prefixed by a dot:
.0x = As cast
.4x = Naturally aged
.6x = Artificially aged
.8x = Annealed (special treatment for G-AlSi12)
The last number specifies the type of casting:
.x1 = Sand casting
.x2 = Permanent mould casting
.x5 = High pressure die casting
