MG CASTING ALLOYS<br />
With the exception of material number and the letter<br />
„M” under 2 for magnesium, the system corresponds<br />
with that for Al casting alloys.<br />
Deviation under 4:<br />
The 5-figure material number specifies the alloy.<br />
The first figure is the main alloying element:<br />
1xxxx Pure magnesium<br />
2xxxx Aluminium<br />
3xxxx Zinc<br />
4xxxx Manganese<br />
5xxxx Silicon<br />
6xxxx Rare earth (RE)<br />
7xxxx Zirconium<br />
8xxxx Silver<br />
9xxxx Yttrium<br />
The second and third figures specify the<br />
alloy type:<br />
x11xx MgAlZn<br />
x12xx MgAlMn<br />
x13xx MgAlSi<br />
x21xx MgZnCu<br />
x51xx MgZnREZr<br />
x52xx MgREAgZr<br />
x53xx MgREYZr<br />
The fourth figure is the number within<br />
the alloy type (e. g.):<br />
xxx1x first alloy<br />
xxx2x second alloy<br />
The fifth figure is 0 or the alloy variant.<br />
DIN SPECIFICATIONS SYSTEM<br />
A member of HONSEL INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES<br />
DIN material numbers are specified in DIN 17007.<br />
The first number being the main material group:<br />
1. = Ferrous materials<br />
2. = Heavy nonferrous metals<br />
3. = Light metals<br />
This is followed by the 4-figure type number:<br />
0000 - 0999 = Al with low additions<br />
1000 - 1999 = Al-Cu-Alloys<br />
2000 - 2999 = Al-Si-Alloys<br />
3000 - 3999 = Al-Mg-Alloys<br />
4000 - 4999 = Al-Zn-Alloys<br />
The material conditions are specified by appended<br />
numbers prefixed by a dot:<br />
.0x = As cast<br />
.4x = Naturally aged<br />
.6x = Artificially aged<br />
.8x = Annealed (special treatment for G-AlSi12)<br />
The last number specifies the type of casting:<br />
.x1 = Sand casting<br />
.x2 = Permanent mould casting<br />
.x5 = High pressure die casting<br />
