DETLEF HARTUNG + GEORG TRENZ
Since 1998 Detlef Hartung und Georg Trenz co-operate
in the development of site-specific multi-source
projections. They stage choreographies of animated
letters and words. Their works are visual poetry on
strong ties to words and their meanings. Playing with
written words and their typographical representation
on an architectural or landscape background they link
the semantics of signs and sites.

Architectural projection
In their site-specific work Detlef Hartung and George
Trenz rose to the challenge to overwrite the idea of
timelessness and stases of a monument with a
vivacious animation. In the large-scale architectural
projection they overwrote the statue of Kaiser Wilhelm
I with animated text scores. Letters became alive
and showed movement patterns similar to those of
colonies of insects or flocks of birds. In constant
motion they changed as if they followed wind and
weather. They connected to form clouds or currents
or to disappear into and reappear from the darkness.
