A powerful statement
Since its premiere at the International Film Festival in
Berlin, where Wolfgang Fischer´s film “Styx” won three
awards, the drama about the transformation of a strong
woman being suddenly torn out of her idyllic world during
a sailing trip - starring Susanne Wolff and Gedion Wekesa
Oduor - has continued its remarkable success story.
Rike, a 40 years old physician from Europe, represents
the typical Western model of happiness and success. She
is educated, confident, determined and committed. We
follow Rike while coping with her everyday life up to the
point where she fulfils her life-long dream to sail alone
on the high seas. Her destination: Ascension Island in the
Atlantic Ocean. But her
dream is quickly destroyed
at the moment she
catches sight of a fishing
boat that capsized in a
storm: about hundred
people find themselves
on the verge of drowning.
After having made
unsuccessful distress calls to the coast guard she is forced to
take an essential decision.
“Styx” was the opener at the Filmkunstfest MV in Schwerin, Germany,
where it won three awards: the Grand Prize of the Festival,
the Audience Award and the Award for Best Sound Design, seducing
the Jury members who described it as „a monolith, a powerful
statement, a film that we do not just watch and forget“.
The film “Styx” will be released by Zorro Film in Germany August
9, and by Filmladen in Austria during autumn.
