呢個係 VA 對出嘅一塊空地 , 到後期有人喺度砌咗一個好大嘅 SOS 字樣俾出面 

嘅人睇 , 其實理大入面有好大嘅人道危機 , 呢個其一啦 ; 其二就係呢個位置右 

手邊影唔到嗰邊其實係一座垃圾山。嗰陣時裡面個環境衛生絕對係好大問題 , 

你試吓千幾人喺同一個地方 , 然後兩個禮拜唔俾佢哋揼垃圾睇吓會發生咩事。 

右手邊就有個垃圾站 , 即係呢張圖影唔到嘅側面 ; 亦都見證住裡面個情況係越 

嚟越惡劣 , 越嚟越差。 

This is an open area outside Block VA. Towards the end, someone put up a huge SOS 

here. There was a huge humanitarian crisis inside PolyU at the time, and this is but 

one facet of it. The other facet is the pile of rubbish on the right, just outside the 

frame. The hygiene situation was appalling, because you can imagine what could 

happen over two weeks when several thousand people were stranded in the same 

place with no sanitation. On the right, where this photo doesn’t cover, is a sort of 

rubbish dump. It was a sign of how rapidly things were deteriorating inside.

F podium 呢條 wing, 同埋之後嗰塊草地 , 其實就係後期圍城之後記者主要聚 

集嘅地方 , 記者聚腳一係就喺呢個位置 , 一係就喺翻 canteen 個位置 , 但大部 

份時間其實都喺呢個位。咁有咩咁特別呢 ? 其實後面草地嗰度有人紮營喺嗰個 

地方瞓。圍城嗰段時間有人選擇匿埋喺某啲角落頭 , 亦都有人選擇露營喺一啲 

好容易見到嘅地方。去到嗰個位其實已經唔係驚俾人拉 , 驚俾人拉其實都好其 

次 , 去到圍城後期嗰段時間係驚自己唔知點解消失咗 , 呢個係最恐怖嘅地方。 

嗰陣時其實最驚就係有班便衣警察衝咗入嚟 , 拉咗我 ; 如果我係被消失嘅 , 

咁點算呢 , 唔係無例子㗎喎 , 陳彥霖呢 ? 我會唔會某一日突然間就變咗條浮屍 

呀 ? 呢個先係嗰陣時最恐懼嘅一樣嘢 , 所以嗰陣時有兩個取態 , 一個就係非常 

之近傳媒 , 有一個曝光 ,even 我俾人拉都好 , 會有人可以見到 ; 另一個取態就 

係要匿得好埋 , 唔可以俾人搵到我 , 我覺得被消失先係後期最大嘅一個恐懼。 

This podium in Block F, and the lawn behind it, was the main meeting place for 

journalists after the siege. Journalists met either here or in the canteen, but most 

of the time they were here. What’s special about it? There were people sleeping in 

camps set up on the grass. During the siege, there were those who chose to hide 

and those who chose to camp in places that were easy to see. What scared me then 

wasn’t the fear of being caught, but the horror of being ‘disappeared’ for no reason. 

What scared me most was when plainclothes policemen would swoop down and 

arrest me. Would I become like Christy Chan - a floating corpse in the harbour? That 

was my greatest fear at that time. I had two options: to be as close to the media as 

possible, to gain some exposure, so that even if I was arrested, someone would have 

seen me. My other option was to hide where no one could find me. Being ‘disappeared’ 

was my biggest fear towards the end.

呢個旗桿嘅位置其實係嗰段時間唔同地方前線有嘢要傾嘅地方 , 或者示威者去 

傾究竟要點做嘅 , 其中一個聚集嘅地方 ; 後尾可能有咩人入嚟 , 又喺度開記者 

會咁嘅地方。 

At the time, this area around the flagpole was one of our meeting places, where 

we would have discussions with the frontline or where protesters would discuss 

strategy. Later, when outsiders were allowed in, we held press conferences here.

呢個走廊亦都係 A core 對出嗰個位 , 好多相都可以影到嗰陣時 , 可以搵翻啲 

舊相去比對 , 其實係一堆嗰陣時嘅燃燒彈汽油彈儲存嘅 , 擺喺度嘅地方 , 因為 

好近前線呀。尤其是去到後尾 , 下面失咗守之後 , 最近嘅前線就係喺樓梯口嗰 

個位置 , 呢度就係擺滿晒嗰啲東西。然後就係突圍嗰個晚上 , 即係香港人嚟救 

Poly 手足嘅嗰個晚上 , 講緊幾百人就係喺呢個位置 , 夜晚等一個機會去突圍出 

去。咁當然大家都知道最後結果係點啦 , 但係嗰一晚喺裡面嗰個情況就係 , 大 

家有嗰個期待就係 , 欸 , 就嚟到 , 然後我哋就可以衝出去突圍 , 但係 , 就係 , 

等咗一個夜晚囉。啫係過一排就會話 , 欸 , 就嚟到喇 , 咁就會喺度士氣高漲 , 

但係就嚟到就嚟到就嚟到 , 即係幾時呢 ? 咁就會停翻落嚟。唔係話講緊去怨出 

面唔黎救 Poly, 唔係講緊呢樣嘢 , 而係嗰個 , 會覺得叫落難嘅心路歷程 , 或者 

其實亦係裡面嘅一個寫照 , 你不斷會有希望可以走到出去 , 但係嗰個希望不斷 

會完。有陣時會同你講邊條路可以走到出去 , 但係其實後面嗰條路已經係封死 

咗有人望住 , 會有人同你講有得衝出嚟配合可以突圍 , 但係到最後其實亦都到 

唔到 , 呢個先係嗰段時間最折磨嘅位置。 

This corridor is outside the A Core. Many pictures were taken here - you can easily 

find one to compare with today. As it’s close to the front lines, this was where the 

Molotov cocktails were stored. Towards the end, after we lost control of the lower 

levels, the entrance to the stairs became the front line, so we put the cocktails 

here. On the night of the siege, the night the Hong Kong people came to our rescue, 

hundreds of people were holed up there, waiting for a chance to break out. Now we 

all know how that turned out, but that night we were all hopeful, like “they’re coming, 

we can break out”. We waited all night. Every now and then they’d say “Hey, they’re 

coming” and we’d all get excited. But after that happened a couple of times, the help 

still hadn’t come and we just stopped. It’s not about complaining about others being 

late to our rescue, it’s about our ‘shipwreck’ mentality. It’s a state where you kept 

hoping to get out, but that hope kept being dashed. People kept telling you about a 

way out, but the fact was that the next way out was also blocked, and the cops were 

watching. They also told you how to break out as a team, but that didn’t happen 

either. It was the worst torture.

呢個位置係 A core 正門嗰條樓梯 , 咁嗰段時間其實亦都係其中一個關口位。我 

企喺度嗰個位其實本身嗰段時間係好多圍板呀 , 其他雜物封起咗做一個關口去 

擋住 , 俾警察唔好上嚟。 

This is the staircase at the main entrance to A Core. It served as one of the gates at 

the time. Where I was standing, there were hoardings and clutter blocking the way, 

so that the police could not come in.

呢個窿位其實就係 …… 我有一個好深刻嘅故仔嘅喺呢個位置。禮拜一朝早組織 

過幾次突圍 , 咁呢度下面有一道門嘅 , 係 core 落到底嘅一道後門 ; 有人準備 

喺呢度突圍出去 , 咁啱我行到呢個位置 , 當佢哋走出咗幾步 , 一班人跑出咗幾 

步之後就已經係催淚彈四射 , 直程係射到上埋嚟我呢個位置 , 其實成件事就係 

嗰朝突圍嘅一個寫照。你其實突圍唔到出去 , 全部人就係 …… 佢係好明顯地焗 

住你呢班人喺裡面。即係你衝出嚟 , 咁如果你係警察嘅頂盡你咪拉佢囉 , 但係 

佢係趕翻你哋入去囉。我而家要做嘅嘢就係圍困你哋 , 射催淚彈 , 逼翻你哋入 

去 , 就係圍困你哋 , 就係咁。呢度望落去其實就係其中一條行車天橋 , 上車嗰 

個 , 都係望到 …… 即係網上面有段片 …… 其實我就係企咗喺呢個位置望住啲示 

威者 , 俾人撳低咗嗰啲 , 就喺地下 ( 俾人 ) 拖行 , 拖走佢 , 一路打一路拖行咁拖 

走咗。嗰刻企咗喺呢個位係好 …… 唔知應該有一個乜嘢感覺 , 好強嘅無力感 , 

好想去幫佢哋 , 但係 , 你又可以做啲乜嘢呢。 

This recessed corner holds deep memories. On Monday morning we organised a 

series of escapes. There was a door below us, a back door that led down to the 

ground. Some of us tried to escape from there. I happened to be standing there when 

one of the escapes took place. They only got a few steps before the cops started 

shooting tear gas, some canisters even reached where I was. All of the morning’s 

escape attempts ended similarly. We couldn’t get out, none of us... It’s obvious that 

they were trying to box us in. The police weren’t trying to arrest us, but drive us back 

inside. It was a siege, plain and simple. From this vantage point we can see one 

of vehicles overpasses. I stood there, watching protesters pushed to the ground, 

beaten and dragged away. Standing there... I wanted to help them so badly, but I felt 

so powerless. There was nothing I could do.

呢度係嗰條天橋 , 亦都係其中一個最主要嘅前線 , 嗰陣時係推到出去出面去到 

火車站嗰條天橋。見到的士嗰個位其實就係火燒裝甲車嗰張相嗰個位置。嗰 

陣時睇哨其實係喺埋天橋頂嗰度走嚟走去 , 所以嗰陣時有時天橋頂會有一兩 

張櫈擺咗喺度 , 俾啲睇哨嘅人坐喺嗰度。到後來因為呢個位有燒過去做 road 

block, 有火啦 , 所以到後期其實有一段長嘅時間會有一張燒爛咗嘅膠櫈喺天橋 

頂嗰個位置。 

Here’s the overpass. It was one of the main fronts leading to the station. Where the 

taxi is in the picture - this is the same place where the photo of the burning armoured 

car was taken. Our sentries used to patrol the top of the bridge, so sometimes we 

would put a chair or two there for them. Later we set fire to this place to make a 

roadblock, so for a long time there was a burnt plastic chair at the top of the bridge.

咁呢度影到上面係 …… 你見到黑色旗桿啦 , 亦都有理大校徽。嗰陣圍城嘅時 

候 , 件事發生嘅時候 , 上面旗桿就係掛住黑紫荊旗嘅。 

Here, looking up to the roof, you can see the flagpole and the PolyU emblem. At the 

time of the siege, the black Bauhinia flag was flying from the flagpole.

然後呢個位影住嘅係閘機嗰個位置 , 好記得黎明行動嘅第一日 , 呢個已經係大 

學校園嘅地方 , 係大學圖書館對出嘅地方 , 我就企咗喺呢度 , 有一個警察揸住 

光頭警長嗰枝散彈槍就指住我 , 叫我走 , 叫我向後褪。講緊呢個係大學校園裡 

面嘅地方 , 我喺大學校園裡面俾人用槍指住 , 呢件係 … 對我嚟講係一件好震撼 

嘅事 ; 當然第一係俾人用槍指住 , 第二樣嘢係喺呢個地方發生。即係好似頭先 

咁講一直都以為大學係一個好安全嘅地方 , 呢樣嘢係好誇張 , 嗰一刻係非常之 

愕然 , 當然當刻你無時間諗太多 , 到後尾你平靜翻落嚟嘅時候你就會諗 , 點解 

會係咁樣嘅 ? 到底點解會咁樣發生呢件事。當然當日就係黎明行動 , 其實呢個 

地方亦都係一個主要嘅戰場 , 然而第一次警察衝入去大學範圍裡面拉人其實就 

係呢個地方 , 直程嗰五六個警察就係揸住槍衝入嚟面前嘅呢個位置 , 指嚇喺理 

大校園裡面嘅人去離開。 

嗰陣時裡面唔係得示威者 , 講緊嗰日係要翻學 , 其實係有學生 , 有同學係喺呢 

個位置 , 嗰日就係咁樣發生咗。到後來 , 即係而家呢張相係而家嘅面貌啦 , 我 

哋亦都見到有閘機。你問我我就到而家都唔知道究竟嗰個閘機係做乜嘢 , 即係 

避免理大事件再次發生呀 ? 其實如果理大件事要再度發生嘅時候其實都唔係一 

個閘機就擋到嘅事啦係咪 ? 其實亦都係印證咗閘機呢樣嘢出現係無實際意義 , 

係做出嚟俾人睇 , 係呢間學校做出嚟俾人睇 , 佢哋係跟循政府嘅步伐 , 佢哋係 

要所謂加強保安俾香港嗰班所謂嘅建制派去睇 , 嗰班嘅保皇黨 , 嗰班嘅共產黨 

去睇 , 佢哋要歸隊嘅一個做法。其實係好諷刺嘅 , 即係一班所謂做教育 , 尤其 

是做大學教育嘅人唔係應該係一班好有風骨 , 好有氣節 , 好有自己堅持嘅人。 

原來喺香港呢個地方 , 香港呢個社會環境 , 無論你係一個咩位置嘅人 , 你要能 

夠喺自己嘅位置度生存你只能夠做共產黨隻狗 , 然後就去做一啲違背良心嘅 

事 , 違背呢個地方原則嘅事 , 違背你呢個身份應該要做嘅事 , 係好可恥。 

I remember the first day of Operation Daybreak, I was on the university campus, just 

outside the university library. There was a policeman pointing a shotgun - just like 

the one the ‘bald sergeant’ was wielding - at me, telling me to leave, to turn around. 

I looked down the barrel of the gun, and it was... a big shock. It was the first time 

someone had pointed a gun at me, and it was in a place I’d always thought safe - 

the university. I was beyond shocked, but I didn’t have time to think. Later, when I’d 

calmed down, I’d think about why it happened. Of course, it was the day of Operation 

Daybreak, and PolyU was a key battleground. It was here that the police first 

arrested someone on a university campus - about 5 or 6 policemen rushed in with 

their guns and ordered people to evacuate the PolyU campus. 

At the time it wasn’t just protesters. It was a school day, so there were students. But 

that was how the day went. Later they put up turnstiles like the one in the picture. I 

don’t even know what their function is - to prevent the PolyU siege from happening 

again? But if it does happen again, these gates won’t do any good, will they? This 

shows that the gates are for show; the university is toeing the official line, increasing 

security to appease the so-called pro-establishment, loyalists, communists. In 

this way they are ‘back in the team’. It’s ironic, because we’ve always thought of 

university teachers as people with strong morals and backbones, who can stand up 

for what they believe. It turns out that in Hong Kong, no matter what you do, you have 

to be a dog of the Communists to survive. You have to go against your conscience, 

against the principles that have sustained the city, against what you are supposed to 

do in your capacity. It’s a terrible shame.

呢個樓梯位就比較 …… 有少少故事咁 , 唔係話太大不了。嗰陣時我喺裡面係行 

呢條樓梯 , 講緊黎明行動嗰日 , 行呢條樓梯我係跣咗落去嘅 , 因為其實成地都 

係油。嗰陣時會突登喺樓梯嘅位置倒滿晒食油 , 令到警察衝入嚟嘅時候會跣 

親。樓梯係特別其中一個位置倒滿晒油 , 等佢哋上落嘅時候可以減慢佢哋嘅速 

度 , 令到示威者可以離開。 

There’s a bit of a story about these stairs, but nothing too special. On the day of 

Operation Daybreak, I slipped going down these stairs because they were covered in 

oil. It turned out that they had poured oil on a certain part of the stairs to slow down 

the cops coming up the stairs, to buy time for the protesters.

呢個位置點解個象徵意義咁強 , 其實就係個 …… 香港第一間大學俾催淚彈攻擊 

嘅呢個位置。呢個位置其實望翻出去就係紅磡火車站嗰條橋 , 其實就係十一月 

十一號第一日黎明行動 , 總之就係黎明行動禮拜一嗰一日朝早六點幾 , 當警察 

衝咗入嚟拉人 , 係衝咗入嚟拉咗一個無辜嘅學生之後 , 退翻出去 , 就開始向理 

大嘅校園裡面去射催淚彈。呢個係一個好象徵式嘅意義就係 , 以前 …… 講緊可 

能前期 …… 可能反修例運動之後 , 任何遊行示威其實對於學生或者對於示威者 

嚟講 , 入到大學校園其實就係一個安全嘅地方 , 因為大學就係一個捍衛自由嘅 

堡壘 , 我哋係咁認為啦吓 ok, 雖然好天真啦而家睇翻。以為嚟到大學 , 大學 

呢個範圍其實就係安全 , 對於一個大學生嚟講其實都係咁樣諗。但係去到嗰一 

日 , 嗰粒催淚彈射入嚟呢個位置嘅時候就正式宣佈其實呢個係一個自欺欺人嘅 

笑話 , 真係大學已經唔再係一個安全嘅地方 , 其實對於示威者嚟講 , 或者對於 

理大學生嚟講其實都係一個好大嘅震撼。其實當刻喺裡面你係唔知俾咩反應 , 

因為大學係一個好有象徵意義嘅一個地方 , 佢裡面係講緊 …… 一個自由嘅象 

徵 , 思想自由 , 思想社會進步自由嘅象徵 , 甚或者喺咁多年以嚟學運喺香港一 

個好重要 , 一個抗爭嘅力量嘅時候 , 大學係一個好有象徵意義嘅地方 , 然而就 

係喺嗰一刻 , 嗰一粒催淚彈射咗入嚟呢個位置 , 所有嘢就正式宣佈破滅。呢個 

位置亦都係當刻 , 當日 , 即係黎明行動當日最主要嘅一個前線嘅位置 , 因為佢 

係近紅磡火車站橋嘅嗰一邊。 

Why does this place mean so much to us? Because this is where, for the first 

time in history, a university in Hong Kong was attacked with tear gas. It was 6am 

on the first day of Operation Daybreak, the 11th of November, when the police 

stormed in, took an innocent student out and then started firing tear gas into the 

PolyU campus. This was a turning point because in the earlier days of the Anti- 

Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement, the university was a safe haven for 

protesters or students because it is supposed to be a bastion of freedom. It may 

seem naive now, but it was something ingrained in university students like me. 

But on that day, when tear gas was fired into the campus, that facade became 

a joke, a self-deception. The university was no longer safe, and this rocked the 

protesters and students to the core. We didn’t know how to react, because the 

university stood for many things - freedom of thought, social progress. It has 

been a cradle for student movements in Hong Kong, a place where resistance 

was nurtured. All of this significance is stripped away the moment tear gas was 

fired into the campus. This place was also one of the key frontline positions for 

Operation Daybreak, as it was close to the bridge leading to Hung Hom Station.

呢個係 podium 嘅其中一處 , 望住對面係紅磡火車站嗰個巴士站 , 即係望住海 

底隧道嗰邊。呢個位置一開始其實係其中一個睇哨嘅地方 , 其次就係 , 其實嗰 

陣時牆邊就唔係咁樣嘅 , 牆邊係好多把遮掛咗喺度用嚟擋催淚彈 , 用嚟擋水 

炮 , 嗰陣時係咁嘅模樣。其實到後期 , 講緊圍城之後 , 夜晚你行過呢個位置 , 

因為對面係紅磡火車站嗰個巴士站 , 咁其實有多警察就係 , 其實幾步 …… 可能 

三、五米就有一個警察係 keep 住望住你呢個位置 , 望住你啲人走嚟走去 , 如果 

你夜晚行過呢 d 嘅位置可能行得近牆然後佢望到你嘅話 , 佢會搵電筒照住你 , 你 

行到邊佢就照到邊 , 咁樣嘅情況。 

This is one of the corners of the platform. On the other side is the Hung Hom Station 

bus stop and the Cross Harbour Tunnel. It was one of the first guard posts from the 

beginning. Another thing is that this wall had another purpose; there were many 

umbrellas hanging from it to protect against tear gas and water cannons. Towards 

the end, after the siege, you’d see a lot of policemen stationed here - one every 3, 

5 metres. It’s probably because this place is just opposite the Hung Hom Station 

bus stop. If you walked by at night and approached the wall, the cops would shine a 

flashlight on you and the light would follow you until you left.

呢個係一個廣場位置 , 其實嗰陣時呢度係擺滿晒一枝枝 , 唔係汽油彈 , 係擺 

滿晒一枝枝食油。一枝枝花生油 , 一枝枝芥花籽油 , 一枝枝 …… 你諗得出嘅食 

油 , 係食用油 , 就擺晒喺呢度 , 一座山 , 幾百枝咁樣。其實去到後來 , 所謂警 

察入嚟搜證 , 聲稱裡面會搵到幾千枝汽油彈 , 嗰陣時見到係覺得幾荒謬嘅呢 

個消息。如果呢個地方有幾千枝汽油彈嘅話 , 其實我相信唔會個結局係咁樣 

先啦第一 , 即係大家唔會咁慌忙逃走先啦 , 大家仲有本錢去繼續頂落去。第二 

就係 , 你問我裡面有無可能有幾千枝汽油彈係一定無可能 , 你話幾千枝花生油 

可能會有 , 外人唔知見到單新聞以為真係 …… 係見到警察公佈呢個數字就走去 

信 , 但係喺裡面嘅人就知道係無可能。所以見到其實係幾咁卑劣嘅一個手段就 

係 , 佢鍾意講咩就講咩 , 佢為咗佢 …… 點講 ? 抹黑你 , 其實任何假嘅嘢佢都講 

得出 , 呢個就係香港警察。 

This area is part of a square. There were a lot of bottles here, not Molotov cocktails, 

but bottles of cooking oil. Peanut oil, rapeseed oil... any kind of cooking oil you can 

think of, they’ve got it here. It’s a mountain of oil, hundreds of bottles of it. In fact, 

after the so-called police came in to collect evidence, they made the ridiculous claim 

that they had found thousands of Molotov cocktails. If we had thousands of Molotov 

cocktails, things would have turned out very differently. Firstly, people would not 

have fled in panic, because they would have had the means to hold on. Secondly, 

even I don’t think we’d have thousands of Molotov cocktails in the university, but 

it’s plausible that we’d have thousands of peanut oil bottles. The public may believe 

whatever number the police give, but we knew it was implausible. This was a 

despicable tactic. They could say whatever they wanted to tarnish your reputation, 

even if it’s not true. This is how low the Hong Kong police have sunk.

呢個係一個上樓梯嘅位置 , 因為呢度樓梯下面其實就係地下嗰條車路 , 嗰陣時 

好驚啲裝甲車會直接喺車路嗰度衝入嚟衝到中心 , 然後就喺呢個理大嘅中心位 

置上樓梯衝上去捉人 , 所以其實呢個位置嗰陣時有一個路障係擋住咗上樓梯上 

到嚟嗰個位。嗰陣時嗰個路障好特別㗎 , 印象特別深刻就係佢係用嗰啲 Wrap 

膠嘅膠紙包起晒成個路障 , 咁你平時話可能磚牆咁樣嗰啲呢 , 即係你爬都爬得 

過 , 但你 Wrap 咗膠 , 再加啲障礙物喺裡面呢 , 其實你係 , 即係 …… 全個 Poly 

嗰陣時圍城裡面唯一一個跨越唔到嘅障礙物其實就係呢個位置。掉翻轉你會發 

現香港人係好有創意 , 由三個磚可以砌到攞藝術獎 , 去到攞 Wrap 膠紙去包起 

好多嘅障礙物去做路障 , 好多雜物去做路障 , 其實你見到香港人係一個好聰明 

嘅民族 , 可惜就係我哋要將呢啲聰明用喺呢啲位置。 

This is the top of a flight of stairs leading down to a street at ground level. At the 

time, we were very afraid that an armoured car would come all the way up that 

street and then the police would come up these stairs and arrest us all in this central 

place. So we put up barricades to block the entrance to those steps. It was a special 

barricade - we used plastic wrap on the whole thing. Brick walls were easy to climb 

over, but by wrapping the barricade with all the clutter inside... it made it harder to 

traverse. This was the only impenetrable barricade in PolyU. Come to think of it, the 

Hong Kong nation has some really creative people. We could win an art prize with 

just a few bricks, and we could make effective barricades with plastic wrap. Such a 

clever people - and what a shame we had to use our intellect in such a way.

呢個係去 Z core 嘅天橋 , 其實佢由第一日黎明行動開始已經係一個主戰場 , 亦 

都係其中一個前線 , 因為佢樓下就係兩條好主要嘅交通幹道 , 一個制高點 , 掟 

嘢落去可以好容易癱瘓到個交通。對我嚟講 , 當然最深印象其實就係 , 遊繩落 

去嗰個嘅畫面。我仲記得嗰段時間就係 , 嗰個晚上 , 我記得係禮拜一嘅夜晚 ,A 

core 嗰邊 , 即係香港人去聲援理大 , 亦都係去救理大手足嘅時候 , 有好多人喺 

A core 嘅正門嗰度準備想突圍。其實嗰個夜晚因為大家都諗緊方法走 , 有好多 

唔同嘅消息不斷地彈嚟彈去 ; 有陣時就話 Z core 有得走 , 呢個就話 Y core 天 

橋有得走 , 有時話 T core 準備突圍出去。嗰晚其實好多人都係咁樣走嚟走去 , 

因為其實就唔知邊度真係 work 咁樣 , 然而其中一個地方就喺呢個 …… 呢條天 

橋嗰度遊繩落去嗰個畫面。其實呢個畫面你覺得喺香港見到係一件好奇怪嘅 

事 , 嗰個畫面你可能你 expect 其實只不過係可能係啲 …… 即係嗰個酒店有人恐 

怖襲擊 , 咁然後啲人要喺嗰個窗裡面逃生先要遊繩走 , 呢啲根本就係電影嘅劇 

情 , 但係嗰陣時係親眼喺我眼前出現喺香港呢一個地方。咁係 …… 我唔知點形 

容 , 總之係一個好誇張 , 對我嚟講好誇張 , 好震撼嘅一個畫面。 

This is the overpass leading to Z Core. It was one of the main battlegrounds from 

day one, and also one of the front lines, with two major traffic arteries just below 

it. You could easily shut down the traffic by throwing things from here. For me, the 

most memorable thing that happened here was when people escaped by going 

down ropes. I remember that night - it was Monday night, when Hongkongers came 

to PolyU’s rescue - there were a lot of people gathered at the main entrance of A 

Core, preparing for an escape. We were all thinking of ways to get out, and different 

messages were circulating. Sometimes it was said that there was a way out at Z 

Core, or that the Y Core overpass was the way to go, or that people were preparing an 

escape at T Core. People were running around that night because they didn’t really 

know what was going to work. So we ended up with the scene of people climbing 

down ropes. It was a strange sight in Hong Kong, because you’d expect it to only 

happen in films, where guests climb out of windows to escape a terrorist attack. But 

then it happened in front of my eyes. I have no words to describe it, except that it 

was beyond shocking and beyond my wildest imagination.

呢個位置係地下 , 車路嘅位置 , 好似之前咁講 , 其實你見到地下有啲渠蓋位 , 

嗰陣時其實全部都係開晒 , 大家因為要嘗試搵路走。然而其實兩邊而家石屎嗰 

啲地其實之前係磚嚟嘅 , 咁點解而家轉晒做石屎就係嗰陣時裡面嘅留守者將嗰 

度嘅磚掘起咗上嚟然後攞去做路障等等。咁呢條路其實叫做係 , 嗰陣時理大嘅 

其中一個生命線 , 因為所有物資都係經呢條路行入嚟 , 嗰陣時係其實一直都好 

驚就係警察嘅車會喺呢個地方度 , 沿住車路長驅直進入到嚟理大嘅中心然後去 

拉人 , 所以其實呢度嗰陣時有封晒牆呀 , 有砌咗磚牆呀等等 , 亦都地下有嗰啲 

磚砌成嘅路障 , 防止呢件事發生。 

This road is at ground level, where cars pass. As I said, all the manhole covers you 

see here were open at the time, as people tried to find escape routes. The pavement, 

which is now concrete, used to be covered with bricks. These bricks were dug up by 

the demonstrators to build barricades. This road was one of the lifelines of PolyU, 

as all the supplies came through it. At the time, we were very afraid that police 

cars would come down this road into the heart of the university and start arresting 

people. So we built brick walls and put brick barricades on the ground to prevent that 

from happening.

呢個位置其實係邵逸夫體育館對出 , 亦都係 Canteen 對出嗰個位置。你見到 

VS 下面嗰道門開咗嘅呢 , 其實嗰度入去就係更衣室 ; 我好深刻有一個畫面喺 

呢個位置就係 , 喺衝突最激烈嗰個夜晚 , 喺柯士甸道嗰個十字路口位有裝甲車 

有水砲車 , 而前線嘅手足其實有好多都俾水砲射中咗。咁你知道香港嗰啲嘅 

水砲車嘅水砲唔係真係水咁簡單 , 裡面係加料 , 係會令到你 …… 第一你會係咁 

震 , 你會發冷 , 你皮膚會開始紅腫 , 如果你 Keep 住俾嗰啲水劑去醃住你嘅身 

體嘅話。 

This room is connected to the Shaw Sports Complex and the canteen. The open 

door under VS leads to the changing room. What I remember about this place is that 

on the night when the clashes were at their peak, armoured vehicles with water 

cannons were stationed at the junction of Austin Road. Many of the people on the 

front line were doused by the water cannon. As you know, the water cannon they 

used didn’t just shoot water, it was laced with chemicals. It could cause tremors, 

chills and red and swollen skin if you didn’t wash it off. 

所以其實你中咗水砲之後一定要沖身 , 如果唔係基本上你係好辛苦好辛苦 , 淨 

係打冷震你都可能打一個鐘頭以上。所以其實嗰晚喺呢個位置就係好多前線 

中咗水炮嘅就喺左邊樓梯度跑落嚟 , 然後就跑入去沖身 , 你嗰啲衫其實全部都 

唔要得 , 因為其實已經染晒嗰啲嘅水砲嘅水劑 , 全部唔可以再著上身。嗰一晚 

就係好多人其實可能已經半赤裸上身咁跑落去 , 係講緊中咗水砲 , 震住 , 然後 

皮膚紅腫咁跑入去更衣室沖完水再出翻嚟 , 繼續去前線 , 繼續去守護翻呢個地 

方 , 所以其實呢個地方係俾我有一個好深刻嘅印象。 

So if you were hit by the water cannon, you had to rinse it off, otherwise you’d have a 

hard time, with shivering for an hour or more. That night, many of those on the front 

lines who were hit by the water cannon ran down the stairs to the left, straight into 

the changing room to rinse off. They also had to take off their clothes as they were 

all covered in chemicals from the water cannon. That night, many of them ran down 

those stairs half naked, sprayed by the water cannon, rinsed off in the changing 

room, then came out, red and swollen, straight back to the front lines to help with 

the defence. That is why this place is so memorable to me.

張圖入面望住嗰個位置其實係一個渠蓋嚟嘅 , 就係嗰陣時圍城嘅時候其實四方 

八面都俾警察圍住 , 咁試過突圍 , 然後就俾人打翻翻嚟 , 然後要走嘅唯一嘅路 

徑對於裡面嘅留守者嚟講 , 最好嘅方法或者最安全嘅一個方法 , 對佢哋嚟講其 

實已經算係最安全嘅方法 , 就係走下水道。 

其實嗰段時間嘅裡面 , 你喺理大嘅地下任何一個渠蓋都見到係打開咗。有好多 

其實 …… 唔係話每一個渠蓋你落到去就已經可以出到去自由嘅世界 , 而係講緊 

點解嗰個蓋打開咗就係因為裡面嘅留守者其實逐個逐個喺度試 , 可能開咗第一 

個渠蓋落咗去 , 爬過一段好窄好窄嘅路 , 然後你喺第二個沙井位上翻嚟 , 推開 

個渠蓋嘅時候發現 , 原來只不過係五到十米嘅距離 , 你仲喺理大嘅範圍裡面 , 

但係你能夠做嘅就係不斷試不斷試。 

圖呢個位置裡面嗰個就係其實後尾記者都報度左出嚟 , 就係一個聲稱可以成功 

逃出去嘅一個位置 , 一個路徑。你見到其實好隱閉 , 喺停車場裡面。然而其實 

成件事都係好危險 , 因為嗰陣時亦都係好多人要去查潮汐漲退 , 要去查啲渠嘅 

路線 ; 其實你落到去無氧氣 , 無照明 , 其實係 …… 衰啲講句真係死咗喺下面都 

唔會有人知咩事 , 尤其是喺下水道。其實亦都見證咗喺裡面想離開 , 去呼吸自 

由嘅空氣究竟係一件幾咁困難嘅事。 

What I was looking at in the photo was a manhole cover. During the siege, the police 

were everywhere. We tried to break out but had to turn back. For those who were 

inside, the last resort or the safest way out was to go underground. 

At that time, every manhole cover you can see on the ground floor of PolyU was 

open. Not all led to freedom though. The reason they were all open was because we 

tested them one by one. We could have opened one cover, crawled through a narrow 

passage, then emerged from another, only to find that it was only 5 to 10 metres 

away; that we were still inside PolyU. But all we could do was keep trying. 

The manhole in the photo was supposedly one of the ways out. This was later 

reported by journalists. You can see that it’s quite well hidden in the car park. But 

it was a dangerous escape route, we had people checking the tides and where the 

sewers went. We had no oxygen, no light. You could die down there and nobody would 

know. It spoke to how difficult it was just to break out and taste freedom.

呢度係一個草地個位 , 個角落頭望落去下面就係柯士甸道十字路口 , 即係最主 

要嗰個戰場 , 即係又有裝甲車呀 , 又有水砲車呀嗰個位置。嗰段時間呢個位置 

都係其中一個主要嘅戰場 , 你見到嗰啲玻璃嘅位置呢 , 其實嗰陣時係圍滿晒 

遮 , 即係為咗擋水砲擋催淚彈擋其他嘢 ; 但係嗰陣時嘅水砲其實係射到上嚟呢 

個位置。講緊嗰段時間之後嘅呢個位置 , 你見到其實喺樹底下唔係嗰啲石屎 

地 , 而係啲泥嚟 , 你見到而家係搵石仔鋪住咗 , 以前係無嘅。其實好後期一段 

時間嗰啲泥都係藍色嘅 , 即係講緊俾嗰啲藍色嘅水砲染劑去染咗色 , 當然後尾 

為咗粉飾太平就搵啲白色嘅石仔冚住佢當無嘢發生過。呢個位置其實亦都係嗰 

陣時其中好主要 , 好主力嘅前線位置。 

This site is at one corner of the lawn. It overlooks the junction with Austin Road, 

which was the main battleground. Armoured vehicles and water cannon trucks 

were stationed here. Because it was one of the main battlegrounds, at the time we 

covered the glass wall with umbrellas to block the water cannon, tear gas and other 

things. The water cannon reached all the way up here. At that time the ground around 

the tree was earth, not pebbles like you see now. The soil turned blue for a long time 

after the siege because of the dye used in the water cannons. Later, to cover it up, 

they covered everything with white pebbles, as if nothing had happened here. As I 

said, this was one of the most important frontline positions at the time.

喺呢個位我都有諗起一樣嘢 , 呢一刻喺呢個位 , 我有聽到一個電話係講有朋友 

俾狗咬咗 , 因為佢想嘗試入嚟救我哋。有另一個朋友都係 , 佢本身諗住喺一個 

位等我嘅時候都俾狗咬咗 , 於是我就好自責 , 點解我自己入咗嚟呢 ? 好似另一 

位朋友 , 佢哋都要入埋啲危險嘅地方。嗰時都崩潰咗好耐 , 後尾好彩收到消息 

話兩邊嘅朋友都放翻出嚟無事 , 又無告佢啲咩 , 真係好好彩 , 但都後悔要朋友 

經歷過呢啲事。 

This place reminded me of an experience I had here. I received a phone call about a 

friend who had been arrested trying to reach us. There was another friend who was 

also arrested while waiting to meet me. I blamed myself; why did I come here? My 

friends had to risk coming here for me. I was devastated for a while, but then I got 

the news that luckily they were both released and no charges were brought against 

them. But I was still sorry that they had to go through this.

喺呢個位嘅時候 , 我都喺度等緊有咩方法同埋有咩消息係話可以走到 , 困咗喺 

度其實唔係好耐啫。呢個時候 , 又見到啲航拍機係會帶啲物資入嚟 , 都幾驚 

喜 , 但其實嗰陣時好彩物資都充足嘅。不過出面有朋友關心見到話會斷糧 , 所 

以比咗啲補充品嚟 , 其中一個航拍機就送嘢送到入嚟呢個位。 

At the time, I was in this place waiting for news about how to escape. We hadn’t 

been trapped for that long. We also saw drones bringing supplies to us, which was a 

pleasant surprise. Fortunately, we had plenty of supplies at the time. Friends outside 

were worried about us not having enough food, so they sent some in. One of the 

drones dropped it here.

喺呢條橋其實心情好複雜 , 因為一方面我自己都想走 , 但有另一方面我又好想 

留低。想走嘅原因係自己唔知會困到幾時 , 同埋有咩方法嘅話都可以嘗試吓 , 

但係最尾都無咁走到。其實我都唔肯定究竟當時係因為邊個因素而決定唔走 , 

第一我覺得太危險 , 你喺呢度衝咗出去可能又要跑好耐 , 你嘅體力唔知有無 , 

因為你都困咗喺度幾日 , 精神同體力都要好充足先可以一路跑過去。成條橋 , 

落完去仲要再入村嗰啲 , 我好驚喺途中被人捉咗去 , 喺無記者嘅情況下俾人拉 

都唔知 , 去邊都唔知 , 可能翻咗大陸都唔知 , 所以我放棄咗呢樣嘢。另一方面 

就係喺 A core 其實仲有好多手足喺度抗爭緊 , 呢一刻走咗 , 我好似好衰仔咁 , 

有種背叛 ……? 其實又唔一定係背叛 , 但係 …… 因為走嗰班人其實都已經頂唔 

順 , 佢哋嘅精神同體力都可能已經不足 ; 但係我仲郁到嘅時候 , 我就覺得點 

都想翻去幫一幫佢哋 , 睇吓情況係點 , 見步行步啦。兩邊都危險嘅 , 咁我選擇 

留低去睇吓有咩進展 , 再幫一幫。見到嗰陣時都有啲手足話 :「你翻翻去幫 A 

core 手足呀 ? 你唔走喇咩 ?」, 其實我覺得自己崩潰咗 , 好彩有一班人留低幫 

佢哋 , 唔係全部都走晒 , 淨低佢哋喺度。 

I had mixed feelings about this overpass. On the one hand I wanted to escape, on 

the other I wanted to stay. I wanted to leave because I didn’t know how long I’d be 

stranded, so I’d try anything that worked. In the end I stayed. I wasn’t sure what 

factors contributed to my decision; it could be that I thought it was too dangerous, 

because once you crossed the overpass there was a long way to run. I wasn’t sure if I 

had the physical strength, because I had been stranded for a few days, and you need 

all your mental and physical strength to make it across, then plot an escape into the 

housing estates. I was afraid I would be caught halfway, and without reporters there 

was no telling what would happen – they might even take me to the mainland. So I 

gave up. Besides, there were many in A Core who were still fighting, and if I left at 

that time, I felt like I was betraying them. Well, betrayal might be too strong a word... 

but those who left were physically and mentally exhausted; in comparison, I still had 

some strength left. I chose to go back and lend a hand where needed. Both choices 

involved some risk, so I chose to stay and help. Some of my fellow protestors saw me 

and said, “You’re going back to A Core? Aren’t you just leaving?” I almost burst into 

tears. There were some who stayed behind to help; they didn’t all go, leaving the rest 

to fend for themselves.

嗰一晚個閃光彈揼入嚟嘅時候 , 大家都唔知係咩嚟嘅 , 以為係炸彈嚟。我就見 

到對面馬路有架車停咗喺度 , 有個男人突然間衝咗出嚟 , 然後揼咗舊嘢入嚟。 

我企喺門口 , 無啦啦有勁大嘅爆炸聲 , 我真係即刻嚇親。佢喺中間揼入嚟呀 

嘛 , 所有人都係向邊邊度走 , 左右散開。我好擔心 , 因為入面其實唔止汽油彈 

嗰啲嘢 , 仲有啲煤氣罐 , 其實都勁危險。如果嗰個係炸彈嘅話 , 咁我哋呢邊嘅 

人真係全部都會炸死 , 因為有咁多危險嘅嘢 , 嗰下真係勁驚慌。聽到好多手足 

都話震到隻耳仔呀 , 真係即刻聾咗。我聽到有啲救護員講話「你唔好再郁 , 或 

者係咁近大聲嘅地方 , 因為你而家耳仔真係受損咗。」個耳膜係 …… 我唔知係 

爆咗定點 , 總之就叫佢唔好再咁近呢啲地方。嗰陣時都好多人即刻派咗耳塞 

過嚟 , 唔知喺邊度突然間攞啲耳塞過嚟 , 勁有效率咁俾我哋。雖然嗰陣時係發 

生一次啫 , 但係個個都準備充足咁去應付翻 , 因為唔知幾時都有呢啲咁嘅相同 

情況。 

That night, when they threw a stun grenade in, we didn’t know what it was and 

thought it was a bomb. I saw a car parked on the other side of the road, then a man 

jumped out and threw something at us. I was at the door and the loud explosion 

startled me. The stun grenade came through the middle and everyone spread out 

along the sides. I was very worried because there weren’t just Molotov cocktails, 

there were also gas cans, all dangerous objects. If it had been a bomb, it would have 

killed us all; it was really scary. I heard a lot of people say that the impact hurt their 

ears and they lost their hearing. I heard the paramedics saying, “Stop moving and 

get away from loud sources because your ears might be damaged”. I didn’t know if 

their eardrums were burst or what, but they were told to stay away. A lot of people 

started handing out earplugs. I didn’t know where they got earplugs, but they were 

passing them around so efficiently. It was a one-off incident, but we immediately 

geared up to deal with it because we didn’t know when it was going to happen again.

當我哋無佢哋咁大力 , 想幫手做到嘢嘅時候 , 我哋只可以一直做補給位 , 俾佢 

哋用 , 而呢個位就放置咗好多我哋整嘅嘢、材料嗰啲嘢 , 希望佢哋可以隨時拎 

到佢哋想要嘅嘢去用。 

Some of us weren’t as physically strong as the others. We could only help by hauling 

supplies. This space has been used to store the various support items we have made and 

materials we have collected, so that they can get what they need whenever they need it.

呢個係抗爭者佢俾水砲車射完用嚟沖洗嘅地方 , 啲人拖咗啲消防喉。個陣喺呢 

一刻會有少少係喺一啲嚴峻嘅情況下可以得到一啲歡樂嘅時候 , 因為大家都會 

覺得好似無諗過要喺咁公眾嘅地方沖涼 , 要除晒啲 Gear, 咁然之後我哋身邊無 

得出去對付嘅人 …… 幫唔到佢哋啲咩 , 只可以幫手遮住 , 希望記者唔好影到啦 

起碼 , 佢哋都好尷尬 , 唔想俾人影到個樣。咁其實我哋真係要係咁攞啲遮遮住 

佢哋 , 令佢哋可以安心啲咁沖走身上令佢哋好痛嘅嗰啲胡椒水、水砲車嘅水。 

This is where protesters rinsed off after being doused by water cannons. Fire hoses 

were pulled out here. These were moments when, despite the seriousness of the 

situation, we could have a bit of fun, because it didn’t occur to us that we had to take 

a shower in such a public place. Body armour had to be taken off, then those of us 

who weren’t going to the front helped out as human shields, preventing reporters 

from taking pictures and getting some of us recognised. We had to use umbrellas as 

shields so that our fellow protesters could concentrate on washing off the pepper 

spray and water from the cannons that were hurting them.

喺呢個位其實都好危險 , 因為對面停車場嗰邊好多狗 , 佢哋不時都會照入嚟 , 

喺嗰一晚入面真係發生咗好多嘢 , 個個位可以見證住佢一路咁炸到過嚟。其實 

我哋都驚 , 但好多手足都唔會話炸完就即刻走 , 佢哋都會企喺嗰個位留意吓會 

唔會有人乘機入咗嚟 , 其實都好危險 , 因為隨時真係炸埋我哋自己 , 所以嗰晚 

係好危險嘅一個埸地。 

It was a dangerous place because there were lots of cops in the car park across the 

road. They would shine a torch in this direction from time to time. There was a lot 

going on that night and this was the perfect place to see it all unfold, to see them 

bombarding us (with tear gas). We were all scared, but a lot of our fellow protesters 

would stay behind after a bombardment to check for cops sneaking through. It was 

a high-risk place because we could have been targets ourselves.

呢個位係可以望住尖東站嘅情況 , 嗰陣時尖東炸橋嘅嗰一晚一直喺度走嚟走 

去 , 基本上無停過 ; 又係咁運送物資 , 佢哋話要武器嘅時候 , 嗰啲汽油彈呀 , 

又或者係石油呀 , 布呀 , 不斷咁補給俾佢哋 , 因為驚佢哋唔夠嘅時候可能比人 

打到入嚟 , 大家就好容易死 , 所以喺呢個位就成日趑趄咁轉。 

From here we could monitor the situation at Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) East Station. That night, 

when they bombed the overpass leading to TST East, we never stopped bringing in 

supplies, weapons, Molotov cocktails, petrol, cloth... we were afraid that if we ran out of 

supplies we wouldn’t be able to hold this position, so we kept coming here.

其實企喺呢個位雖然唔係最望到出面十字路口漆咸道南嘅情況 , 嗰陣時其實係 

第一日開始佢哋想攻入嚟嘅時候 , 呢一邊只可以防護到我哋 A core 出面嗰條打 

橫嘅路 , 前面就係科學園、博物館嗰邊 ; 咁都係望住 , 睇吓對面座有無啲可疑 

嘅狗隻咁樣。好似係喺呢個位嘅時候試過有一個抗爭者身上有粒紅點 , 我哋嗰 

陣時大家都好驚 , 唔知佢呢個紅點係咩嚟嘅 , 會唔會係狙擊槍或者係其他可能 

令我哋受傷嘅方式。所以喺呢個位其實都幾緊張 , 就算前面十字路口嗰邊抗爭 

者係比較近水砲車或者其他地方之外 , 呢邊其實隔離做嘢對我哋嚟講都幾危險。 

This wasn’t the best viewpoint towards Chatham Road South, but it was the only side 

from which we could see the road running parallel to A Core. The Science Museum 

and History Museum were further up. We watched the other side for suspicious police 

activity. At one point we noticed a red dot shining on one of our fellow protesters. 

We were terrified, not knowing if it was from a sniper rifle or some other means of 

harming us. It was one of the more stressful places, besides the crossroads outside 

or places where protesters faced water cannons. It was not the front line per se, but 

there was a certain amount of danger.

呢個應該係佐敦手足衝過嚟 , 諗住落去救我哋嘅嗰一日晚上。我哋諗住只要連 

接到大家就可以衝翻出去 , 覺得可以平安翻屋企 , 但其實佐敦嘅手足嗰邊嘅情 

況每況愈下 , 而我哋都 …… 一嚟喺室內 , 但其實我哋喺室內都做唔到任何嘢 , 

自己要 …… 好似突登踩入一個陷阱 , 搞到人哋救我哋 , 其實我哋都唔想搞到佐 

敦手足咁慘 , 咁辛苦為咗我哋要係咁俾狗拉 , 因為我知嗰陣時其實佢哋大部份 

都俾狗咬咗。 

咁我哋就話不如我哋自己衝出去啦 , 所以前線嗰班手足帶領下就起哄話我哋不 

如衝出去啦 , 睇吓我哋可唔可以近佢哋啲 , 咁大家個力量就會勁啲。但係一出 

到去嘅時候 , 我哋就算點樣衝都好 , 都好多水炮車係到 , 咁嘅情況下係完全無 

任何進展嘅。而我地只係重複前進同後退。其實我哋都好驚 , 但只係硬住頭皮 

咁撐落去。到最後估唔到原來 , 好似喺科學館嗰邊有一班狗衝咗出嚟 ; 我哋完 

全分唔到到底佢哋係我哋自己手足定係狗嚟 , 但我覺得佢向我哋方向跑嚟嘅時 

候係好奇怪 , 我哋個個人頭湧湧即刻衝翻返去 , 但個邊又多草叢呀巴士站呀 , 

喺馬路衝翻去 A core 其實好窄好窄 , 所以我哋個個都好驚 , 因為驚自己上唔翻 

去就俾狗咬 , 咁就真係要坐十年。 

結果真係個個都爭先恐後 , 好多人都可能喺樓梯度跌親 ,( 我見到有個女仔跌親 

嘅喺我後面 ) 見到啲速龍喺我哋後面 , 我後面都好似係被毆咗一棍 , 我同佢哋 

距離咁近嘅時候 , 個女仔係咪更加近呢 ? 咁我唔理喇 , 我死都扯佢翻上去啦 , 

唔係自己走 , 因為其實都差幾步啫 , 我見佢一隻速龍應該應付唔到全部人。咁 

我夾硬扯咗個女仔翻上去 , 之後大家平安無事啦 , 但嗰刻真係好恐怖 , 唔單止 

狗嘅恐怖 , 嗰種情況其實好恐怖。 

It was the night that fellow protesters from Jordan came to us. They were planning 

our rescue. We thought that once we joined forces, we could all go home safely. But 

the situation in Jordan was deteriorating. We were trapped inside and there was 

nothing we could do. We felt responsible for putting our fellow demonstrators in a 

terrible situation because we had trapped ourselves and had to be rescued. They had 

to face the police and risk arrest because of us - we knew at the time that most of 

them were actually arrested. 

We then proposed that we break out ourselves. Led by the protesters on the front 

line, we shouted and rallied. We wanted to go out there. We wanted to see if we could 

meet the protesters halfway in Jordan. But as soon as we got out there, there were 

water cannon trucks all around us and we couldn’t move forward. All we could do 

was run forward, then retreat; rinse and repeat. We were all terrified, but we had to 

hang on. Then there was a group of plainclothes policemen on the move from the 

direction of the Science Museum. We couldn’t tell if they were friend or foe, only that 

it was strange that they were running towards us. We all made a hasty retreat, but 

there were a lot of bushes and bus stops, and it was a narrow path back to A Core. 

We were all so scared that if we didn’t make it we would be arrested and spend the 

next decade in prison. 

Then everyone fled in a panic. Many of us may have fallen on the stairs and I saw a 

girl fall behind me. A member of the Raptors (the special tactical unit of the police) 

was right behind us and I felt like I had been hit with a baton. I thought, if he was so 

close to me, wouldn’t the girl in even greater danger? I threw my fear to the wind and 

pulled the girl up instead of running myself - it was only a few steps anyway, and he 

was only one while we were many. I pulled the girl up and suddenly we were safe. It 

was a terrifying moment, scarier than facing the police.

大家有啲咩爭議或者係有啲咩行動嘅時候 , 都會喺呢個空地廣場討論。無論係 

十一歲 , 二十歲 , 或者可能到三十歲嗰啲人 , 阿叔都可能會有 , 都會想 share 出 

嚟 , 睇吓方法行唔行得通 , 有啲咩行動係會對成個抗爭好啲。我嗰陣時聽到其 

中一個係 , 應該大概十二歲以下嘅小朋友係講得好激動 , 我無諗到一個咁細年 

紀嘅小朋友 , 佢個心情係去到好似大人咁。我知道可能佢啲諗法係未夠成熟 , 

但有呢個心態我都覺得好佩服佢。 

Whenever there was an argument or someone called for action, we’d open it up 

for discussion in this area. The participants could be 11, 20, 30 years old, or even 

middle-aged; they’d all want to share their views, explore whether a certain path was 

feasible, what actions could contribute to the resistance. I heard an impassioned 

speech from one of them, a child probably not even 12. I didn’t think a child of that 

age could have the mentality of an adult. I knew the argument might be immature, 

but it was the passion that struck me most.

呢個位我印象中係一個好多石陣嘅地方 , 大家都好努力 , 諗住話呢個係我哋起 

碼第一個方法 , 做到可以等啲車唔好入到嚟 , 可以有啲阻礙。但係其實跑嘅時 

候大家會更加容易受傷 , 但係當時候我諗我哋呢個年紀 , 同經驗咁少嘅人嚟 

講 , 真係一個最容易嘅方法去保障自己。 

I remember we had a lot of brick blockades here. Everyone worked hard because 

they thought it was one of the first ways we could stop cars coming in. In fact, we 

could easily get hurt by these obstacles when we were running, but with our age and 

lack of experience, it was the easiest way to protect ourselves.

個陣時因為已經困咗係度三日 , 個時仲未話想走嘅。係突然間聽到有救護車過 

嚟 , 話可以走嘅時候我地就唯有咁樣做。因為都唔知要係到困幾耐 , 係呢個時 

候都幾驚。唔知救護車係唔係可以直接比我地走到 ? 會唔會可以唔洗被拘留 ? 

所以我地係等嘅時候都一直驚緊 , 驚會見唔番啲朋友就咁困咗入去。 

I’d been stranded for three days, but I still hadn’t thought about leaving. Suddenly 

we heard about an ambulance coming, and people said it was a way to leave, as we 

didn’t know how much longer we’d be stranded. We had a mixture of doubt and fear - 

would the ambulance be a direct way out? Was it true that we wouldn’t be detained? 

We kept worrying as we waited for the ambulance; we were afraid we would be 

locked up and never see our friends again.

阻礙佢哋進度 , 總之就係將佢地拖慢 , 總之嗰陣時呢個位嘅兩邊 , 有 

一邊封咗咁滯 , 應該就係 Z Core 呢邊封咗。嗰陣時望係無咁闊嘅 , 

因為兩邊都擺咗好多嘢 ; 之後我同三、四個朋友聽到我哋有朋友喺呢 

邊 , 我哋就行咗過嚟呢度。嗰陣時情況仲未係咁緊張嘅 , 行到過嚟時 

已經有啲狗喺下面同橋上啲人講嘢 , 我哋去到呢度嘅時候有好多手足 

已經喺度同下面啲人對鬧。 

好記得嗰陣時係咁掟嘢落去 , 但可以睇得出佢哋唔敢真係掟啲狗 , 可 

能因為 …… 我都有掟嘅 , 我就無掟到佢哋 , 因為我嗰陣時個心態係要 

阻佢哋前進 , 我咁後生我會諗 , 真係掟到嘅話會無啦啦因為呢吓 , 搞 

到成個行動急咗 , 我唔想呢樣嘢發生。 

嗰陣有啲人嚟呢度係玩 , 有講有笑 , 仲喺度傾偈玩手機 ; 另一邊廂當 

然亦都有啲手足 , 同埋我哋嗰班都係比較認真同埋驚 , 因為真係唔知 

會發生咩事。同埋嗰陣時喺度諗啲狗幾時會封 , 幾時會唔俾出入。好 

記得喺條橋嗰度 , 我哋仲喺度睇緊下面有無狗 , 另一邊廂手機又係咁 

收到正門唔掂 , 同紅磡橋嗰邊又點啦 , 好驚好驚嘅時候 , 好記得後面 

有四個人勁大聲喺度笑同傾偈 , 嗰時我係幾嬲嘅。其實我入嚟咁耐 , 

我係真係驚 , 因為我屋企唔知我嚟 , 驚嘅原因係 , 我一走唔到 , 俾人 

拉嘅風險好高 , 但係我又要留喺度。我喺度諗我走咗 , 翻去點都好 , 

我訓底 , 但係如果呢度啲人比人拉 , 我可以做乜 , 所以我都留喺度 ; 

但我諗緊呢樣嘢嘅時候居然有人喺度有講有笑 , 成件事好諷刺。 

We were trying to block their progress, slowing them down in any way possible. At this location, we 

had access to two routes. One route, probably leading to the Z Core, was blocked. This place was also 

much narrower at the time, as a lot of clutter on both sides. A couple fellow protestors came here with 

me hearing that some friends of ours had arrived. The situation was less tense at the time. When we 

got there, there were cops shouting at the people on the bridge, and protestors shouting back. 

I remember we kept throwing things at the cops, but you could see we weren’t doing it for real, maybe 

because... I did a bit of throwing myself but didn’t hit anyone. My aim was to stop them from moving 

forward. The reasoning in my adolescent brain was that if I hit them, it would throw the operation into 

chaos; I didn’t want that to happen. 

There were some people who came for fun. They joked and laughed, chatted and fiddled with their mobile 

phones. On the other hand, there were fellow protestors and people like me who were more serious and 

worried. We didn’t know what was going to happen. We wondered when the police would block the road, 

when they’d stop us coming in and out. I remember we were checking to see if there were any cops below 

when another person heard bad news about the front gates and how arrests were being made at the Hung 

Hom overpass. As we panicked, we heard the roaring laughter of four people behind us. It made me angry. 

I was really worried the whole time I was here because my family didn’t know where I was. I was worried 

because if I couldn’t leave, there was a high risk that I would be arrested. But I had to stay. Many things 

went through my mind: leaving, staying, lying down, what I could do if I was arrested, why I stayed. I was 

thinking about all these while others were laughing and chatting away; it was so ironic. 

嗰陣時上到嚟 , 其實呢邊又要顧 , 手機 TG 嗰度又一路話正門嗰邊又 

唔得 , 又點點點呀 , 呢度係比較無咁緊張嘅 , 但係之後啲狗封咗 , 呢 

度就開始緊張。如果你有留意 , 就係啲電單車、家長車 , 同埋有手足 

開始喺度遊繩 , 就係呢個位落。 

All the while I was up here, I needed to keep my attention here, all the while messages kept coming through 

telegram on my phone, saying how things weren’t going well at the front gate. By comparison things were 

less tense here. Later, when the cops set up a blockade, tensions here rose again. If you’d paid attention, 

escape cars and bikes all stopped here, where fellow protestors climbed down using ropes.

嗰陣時一嚟到 , 門口個啲嘢唔夠 , 個個就開始入圖書館搬啲櫃呀、電腦枱呀、 

梳化出正門搭起 , 一啲意想不到嘅嘢都會搬出嚟 , 無諗過同大學啲唔識嘅同學 

會有咁齊心嘅時候。諷刺嘅係 , 如果唔係呢次 , 我諗我讀大學咁耐都唔會入圖 

書館 , 嗰次亦係我唯一一次。 

There weren’t enough supplies to set up a blockade at the front gates, so we all went 

into the library and started moving cabinets, computer tables, sofas and all sorts of 

stuff to the front. We would never have thought that there would be such solidarity 

among university students who barely knew each other. Ironically, if it hadn’t 

been for that time, I probably wouldn’t have gone to the library in my entire time at 

university. It was the only time I did.

我哋唔係最早入嚟嘅 , 一入到嚟就係去 Canteen 攞 Gear。好記得落到嚟係有 

好多 Gear 同埋淋淋瀋瀋嘅零食、嘢食 , 所以呢個位好多人 , 個個一嚟到就係嚟 

呢度 , 擺低嘢都係呢度擺底。 

We weren’t the first to arrive. We went straight into the canteen to get our gear. I 

remember there was a big stockpile of equipment, snacks and food, which attracted 

a lot of people. Everyone stopped by and supplies were also left here. 

我哋一入嚟嗰陣無裝備 , 都係着啲運動衫 , 就嚟打仗。嗰陣時一嚟到 , 真係好 

似打仗咁 , 有好多位 , 無論係頭先條橋又好 , 呢度又好 , 同宜家都好唔同 , 望 

落好似無咁大 , 因為嗰陣放咗太多嘢。 

嗰時 Canteen 啲枱打橫擺起晒 , 有好多好多 Gear。同我一齊嚟嘅一啲女仔就 

好似嚟湊熱鬧咁 , 係咁攞 Gear, 但係嗰時 TG group, 同埋啲人行過都有講過 

唔夠豬嘴 , 我都係得普通口罩 , 啲狗又會掟催淚彈入嚟 , 所以嗰時我就叫班女 

唔好攞豬嘴 , 你唔係真係走去博殺就唔好嘥嘢 , 戴翻口罩算啦 , 啲勞工手套都 

係 , 唔係搬嘢就唔好攞。 

呢個位令我最深刻嘅係 , 嗰陣時我哋喺度傾緊點部署 , 無啦啦 “ 磅 ” 一聲好大 

聲 , 以為有咩事 , 係咪開始入嚟 ? 好彩唔係 , 係啲手足喺泳池嗰度試緊火魔。 

同埋我哋會留喺呢個位睇 TG group 同新聞嗰啲消息 , 有啲人就喺度諗幾時走 , 

去邊度幫手 , 睇啲狗嘅消息。 

We were wearing just sweatshirts and didn’t have any equipment, but we came to 

fight. It really felt like a battlefield at the time. All the places, like the overpass just 

now or here, looked very different then. It didn’t seem as spacious because we had a 

lot of stuff here. 

The tables in the canteen were all lined up and there was a lot of gear. The girls I 

came with seemed to be caught up in the excitement, grabbing pieces of gear left 

and right. At the time, the telegram groups and protestors passing by were talking 

about a shortage of respirators. Even I wore a face mask. Besides, the cops would be 

shooting tear gas, so I told the girls to leave the respirators alone and just wear face 

masks. If they were really going to the front, they shouldn’t waste the supplies. Same 

with the work gloves, leave them alone if they weren’t going to help move things. 

The most memorable moment here was when we heard a loud bang while we were 

discussing strategy. We thought it was the cops making their move. It turned out to 

be fellow protestors testing ‘fire magic’ (Molotov cocktails) in the swimming pool. We 

also stayed here to monitor the telegram groups and the news. Some were thinking 

about when to leave, where help was needed, or watching the police movements.

嗰陣我哋搬完嘢出嚟 , 一入嚟未入閘嗰度有個凹位 , 我哋就係企喺嗰度望出 

去 , 睇吓有咩情況。嗰時有啲似睇警匪片咁 , 對面紅館前啲嗰個停車場嘅唔同 

層 , 同紅隧閘口 , 都有啲狗望住我哋 ; 近少少嘅呢啲位都會望到我哋。雖然宜 

家諗翻係傻傻哋 , 但嗰陣會驚啲人攞狙擊槍 …… 你都知佢哋係會掹槍 , 真槍實 

彈 , 所以真係驚 , 不過最後都無發生。之後就係睇有無狗車嚟 , 時不時望望吓 

又會多架狗車喺嗰度落 , 勁多狗落晒 , 又會開始驚 , 以為有好多狗。 

我哋一開始嚟嘅時候都有去紅磡橋望吓 , 但之後封多咗嘢 , 嗰度得翻好少位 , 

可能唔想俾啲狗行過嚟 , 所以之後大家有共識 , 淨係俾啲射箭嘅人過去 , 我哋 

就唔會去嗰度 , 廢事阻住佢哋 , 同埋我哋去嗰度其實都無嘢做到。 

That time we came out after finished carrying supplies. There was an alcove right in 

front of the turnstiles, so we stood there and surveyed the situation. It was like a cop 

movie - there were cops looking at us from several levels of the car park outside the 

Hong Kong Coliseum, as well as from the gates of the Cross Harbour Tunnel. We were 

clearly visible to those around us. It seems silly now, but at the time we were worried 

that the cops would use sniper rifles on us. They were using firearms, with real 

bullets, so we were worried. But in the end nothing like that happened. Later on, we’d 

keep an eye out for cop cars coming in, and sometimes we’d look and see another 

car dropping off a whole gang of cops. We’d panic again, thinking they were coming 

for us. 

呢度主要都係睇住紅磡紅隧嗰邊 , 同對面啲狗會做咩。好記得嘅係 , 我哋搬完 

圖書館啲嘢出嚟 , 喺呢度留左一陣 , 再走去 Z Core 個邊橋嘅時候 , 無啦啦聽到 

呢邊好似開始射催淚彈入嚟 , 之後我哋都無再過嚟呢邊 , 因為呢邊真係乜都做 

唔到。 

In the beginning we checked the overpass leading to Hung Hom Station. Later we 

reinforced the barricades and left little space there; we didn’t want the cops to come 

that way. Later we agreed to let the archers go there and we’d stay out of their way. 

There was nothing we could have achieved by being there anyway. 

This was the lookout point for the Cross Harbour Tunnel side and the police across 

the road. We stayed here for a while after moving the furniture out of the library. As 

we moved on to the overpass at Z Core, we heard tear gas being fired at this point. 

We didn’t come back because there was nothing we could do here.

嗰陣時我哋唔知啲狗會喺邊度入嚟 , 又聽到話成日會有狗喺呢啲地方徘徊 , 覺 

得呢個位好危險 , 所以我同兩個男仔朋友落咗嚟呢度 , 係咁搬啲爛咗嘅枱枱凳 

凳落嚟 , 砌咗個路障。 

We didn’t know where the cops were coming from, and we heard that cops were patrolling 

this area. We thought this was a vulnerable location, so I came here with two mates and 

set up a blockade with some broken tables and chairs. 

而家諗翻 , 嗰陣真係好似手無縛雞之力咁 , 啲狗有真槍、裝甲車 , 而我哋唔想 

俾啲狗入嚟 , 就只可以攞啲枱枱凳凳求其搭起就話係路障。呢樣嘢都幾搞笑 , 

一嚟啲狗會唔會諗起呢個位呢 ? 可能我哋驚嘅嘢啲狗根本就無諗過 , 佢哋諗嘅 

可能係 , 我要入嚟好易就入到 , 唔會諗咁多 ; 而我哋就乜都驚乜都諗 , 落咗嚟 

封嘢。嗰陣時真係好求其咁掹咗啲枱凳拖落樓梯 , 係咁易搭吓就叫路障 , 好脆 

弱㗎咋。 

根本上嗰度又好 , 呢度都好 , 我哋做嘅所有嘢都好脆弱 , 乜都後生仔整 , 又無 

物資 , 乜都無 , 佢要入嚟一定入到嚟 , 就係咁。 

Now that I think about it, we were pretty powerless back then. The cops had real guns and 

armoured cars, and all we could do to stop them was to set up blockades with tables and 

chairs. It’s funny because we didn’t even know if the cops would notice this place. They 

could have walked in at any time, so they might not have even considered the things we 

were worried about. And here we were, building blockades and worrying all the time. At 

the time we were just randomly picking up tables and chairs and dragging them down the 

stairs and making a random blockade. It’s quite fragile. 

No matter where we focused our efforts, everything we built was fragile. We were 

inexperienced, we had no resources, we had nothing. They could have come in at any time.

呢個位置原本係一間 Starbucks 嘅鋪位嚟嘅 , 圍城之後因為 Starbucks 係美 

心嘅緣故 , 就無再續約。嗰陣圍城期間呢間鋪喺個「練箭場」, 因為圍城嗰陣係 

需要用到唔少嘅嘢去防守 , 其中一樣嘢就係弓箭。始終有好多人或者有啲人係 

唔識 , 甚至係未見過弓箭。呢個場地就係俾大家去練習 , 甚至係學吓點樣去射 

箭。嗰陣都有啲有射箭牌嘅人喺度教班手足 , 同時都會教佢哋點樣用啲材料去 

整一把弓出嚟。 

We used to have a Starbucks here. After the siege, the lease wasn’t renewed because 

the shop was run by Maxim’s Catering. During the siege, it served as an ‘archery 

range’ because bows and arrows were among the many things we used for defence 

during the siege. Many of us didn’t know how to use a bow and arrow, or had never 

seen one before. This was a place to learn and practise archery. Some with archery 

licences were there to teach other protesters how to shoot a bow, and even how to 

make a bow out of raw materials.

呢度係連接主校園同 Z Core 嗰條天橋 , 亦都係圍城初期其中一個據點。因為呢 

條天橋下面係連接去其它地區嘅主要交通樞紐 , 喺黎明行動嗰陣都係啲手足傾 

出嚟 , 決定去堵塞呢條路嘅交通 , 形成三罷。早期嘅手足亦都喺呢條橋上面駐 

紮 , 因為呢條橋比較闊落 , 可以擺到唔同嘅嘢 , 我自己亦都喺早期嘅時候喺呢 

條橋擺吓圍住嘅嘢。基本上自己大多數時間都會喺呢條橋 , 因為已經擺晒有嘅 

物資喺度 , 可以令到啲手足唔洗周圍走 , 睇住呢個據點。 

喺早期嘅時候都有唔少警察喺橋下面同對面觀察住我哋 , 都有幾次見到警隊嘅 

防暴落咗地 , 似係想推進 , 但對視之後就離開。對於香港人嚟講更加印象深刻 

嘅就係「游繩逃生」嗰一幕 , 亦都係喺呢條橋度發生。 

This is the overpass that connects the main campus to Z Core. It is one of the 

defensive points early in the siege. The overpass overlooked major traffic arteries 

leading to other districts. During Operation Daybreak, fellow protesters devised 

a strategy to block traffic below in order to achieve a society-wide strike. Earlier, 

fellow protesters had also set up a base on this overpass because it was wide and we 

could store a lot of different things here. I myself set up blockades here early on. We 

spent most of our time on this overpass because we had all the supplies we needed. 

The protestors didn’t have to go anywhere else to get supplies, they just had to stand 

guard here. 

In the first few days there were lots of police watching us from below and across the 

street. On a few occasions, we saw anti-riot police on the ground, seemingly about 

to move forward, but after locking eyes with the protesters, they moved away. More 

memorable for Hongkongers was the scene of protesters climbing down the ropes to 

escape - this is where it happened.

呢度嗰陣有一塊告示板 , 上面寫咗唔同地方唔同據點需要啲咩人、理大成個校 

園嘅地圖 ; 呢幅地圖最主要都係想俾啱啱到嘅手足知道理大嘅地形、知道咩地 

方要咩人等等 , 感覺上就好似係打機入面你走去接任務咁。其實初期喺理大入 

面係無完善嘅統籌或者管理 , 但係去到後期就因為原本中大嗰邊有好多物資都 

轉移咗過嚟理大 , 就開始需要有人去管理同埋安排人手 , 所以就漸漸開始有呢 

一啲訊息平台出現 , 等唔同嘅手足了解清楚情況 , 例如唔同位置需要咩人、去 

邊度食飯 , 又或者係逃生路線等等 , 其實都喺塊板上面。 

At the time, we had a notice board with a map of the PolyU campus, showing the 

different locations and bases of operations, and the types of people needed in each. 

The map was to inform newcomers of the topography of PolyU and where they were 

needed, not unlike the ‘mission board’ you see in games. In the early days there 

was little coordination or management within PolyU, but later a lot of supplies were 

being transported here from CUHK, so there was a need for someone to manage and 

organise the manpower. And so these information boards came into being, giving 

the other protesters a better idea of the situation, like who was needed where, where 

to eat, escape routes and so on. It was all on the board.

呢度就係 M Core 對出其中一塊空地 , 其實係第二個靶場 , 呢個靶場唔係射箭 

嘅 , 而係嗰陣好多手足因為要守城 , 都希望可以整一啲投石機去阻止警方攻入 

校園 , 呢個地方就係去測試整出嚟嘅投石機 , 例如試吓佢夠唔夠力等等。 

除咗個練靶場之外 , 好多時候一啲重要嘅宣佈都會喺呢個空地度 , 等啲手足知 

道 ; 亦都有唔少嘅決定 , 例如去留嘅問題、唔同地方嘅人手安排、要唔要衝出 

去校園外嘅道路做嘢等等 , 都有時候會喺呢個空地上面公布同傾 , 亦都會有唔 

少手足喺度休息。 

This open space outside M Core served as our second range. It wasn’t for archery, 

but for trebuchets. The reason for this was that many of us had to defend against the 

siege, and we all wanted to make trebuchets to stop the cops from coming onto the 

campus. Here we tested the prototypes to see if they had enough power and so on. 

Apart from the range, important announcements were also made in this open space. 

Decisions to be made, such as whether to stay or go, manpower arrangements 

for different locations, whether we need to venture outside the campus and do 

something on the streets outside, and more, are sometimes announced and 

discussed in this open space. This is also where many of the protesters rest.

呢條橋即係我哋叫嘅紅火橋 , 紅磡火車橋。喺理大圍城開始之前有警察喺黎明 

行動期間喺呢條天橋上面駐守 , 有睇新聞嘅人都可能會記得有一條片係警方嘅 

防暴警察喺度拘捕一個大咗肚嘅女士 , 亦都喺呢條天橋發生 ; 呢度亦係警方第 

一次攻入理工大學 , 防暴警察就喺呢條橋度進入嘅。喺圍城期間嘅時候 , 呢條 

橋係重要嘅據點之一 , 所以都多手足睇住 , 因為呢條橋連接住紅磡火車站上面 

一個巴士總站 , 經常有好多警察喺條橋上面望住我哋 , 有時會喺度播歌 , 甚至 

會去挑釁我哋。 

This is what we called the Hung Hom Railway overpass. Before the PolyU siege, 

the police were stationed here during Operation Daybreak. Those who have been 

following the news may remember a video clip of the riot police arresting a pregnant 

woman, which also happened on this overpass. It was also the way the riot police 

used to enter PolyU. During the siege, this was one of the most important footholds, 

so many protesters stood guard here. The reason for this was that the overpass was 

connected to a bus terminal above Hung Hom Railway Station, and many police 

officers often watched us from here, sometimes playing songs, sometimes even 

taunting us.

理工推進 , 好彩之前已做好準備 , 準備左一大堆嘢 , 好似係全身盾、保護裝備 

等等 ; 我哋都係用全身盾去築起「盾牆」去抵擋橡膠同催淚彈 , 我哋最後推翻佢 

哋嘅防暴封鎖線 , 成功守橋。 

另一樣嘢想講嘅係喺尖東橋度都見到好多嘢 , 自己喺尖東橋度守嗰段時間 , 有 

一日好記得嘅係有一班人嚟咗幫手守橋 ; 目測嗰班人應該係十六七歲 , 一班未 

成年嘅小朋友。起初見有人幫手好開心 , 因為終於有人嚟接更 , 嚟幫手。 

但係慢慢佢哋喺度玩 , 飲埋啤酒 , 同佢哋講嘅時候 , 佢哋都淨係講一句 , 飲咗 

啲酒個樽要嚟整火魔呀。其實嗰吓都幾嬲 , 佢哋有啲輕視呢個位置 , 或者係而 

家所做嘅嘢。但係嬲就只係一陣 , 其實諗深一層覺得好無奈 , 原本呢班小朋友 

嘅暑假唔應該係同我咁一齊去過 , 唔應該係執催淚彈 , 喺度捱 TG, 捱橡膠子彈 

等等 ; 係應該開開心心去拍吓拖 , 睇吓戲 , 唱吓 K 咁。 

點解極權要逼到呢個社會未來一代咁慘 , 喺度受苦。 

The most memorable part of the whole movement took place on the Tsim Sha Tsui 

East overpass. It wasn’t just because I spent a lot of time there, guarding, defending 

and reinforcing barricades, but because on one occasion I stopped the police from 

advancing and even chased them off. I remember one time a team of riot police were 

advancing on the Tsim Sha Tsui East overpass towards PolyU. Luckily, we were fully 

prepared. We had full body shields, protective gear and more. We used our full body 

shields to form a ‘shield wall’ to repel the rubber bullets and tear gas, and eventually 

broke their ranks and defended the bridge. 

I would also like to share the many things I witnessed on the Tsim Sha Tsui East 

overpass. While I was standing guard there, a group of people came to help. They 

seemed to be about 16, 17 years old, hardly adults. At first, we were happy to see 

someone coming to help, because there was someone to share the work. 

When they settled in, they were just fooling around, drinking beer, and when I spoke 

to them, they just said they had to finish the beer to get bottles for fire magic (Molotov 

cocktails). I was a bit angry at that point, thinking that they were not taking their 

duties here seriously and were missing the whole point of our movement. But my 

anger only lasted a while, because when I think about it, they shouldn’t be spending 

their summer holidays with us like this. They shouldn’t be picking up spent tear 

gas canisters, breathing tear gas, being shot at with rubber bullets. They should be 

carefree, going on dates, going to the cinema, singing karaoke. 

Why did this totalitarian regime impose this on the future generation of our society? 

That they had to suffer like this?
