學 校 園 嘅 地 方 , 係 大 學 圖 書 館 對 出 嘅 地 方 , 我 就 企 咗 喺 呢 度 , 有 一 個 警 察 揸 住
光 頭 警 長 嗰 枝 散 彈 槍 就 指 住 我 , 叫 我 走 , 叫 我 向 後 褪 。 講 緊 呢 個 係 大 學 校 園 裡
面 嘅 地 方 , 我 喺 大 學 校 園 裡 面 俾 人 用 槍 指 住 , 呢 件 係 … 對 我 嚟 講 係 一 件 好 震 撼
嘅 事 ; 當 然 第 一 係 俾 人 用 槍 指 住 , 第 二 樣 嘢 係 喺 呢 個 地 方 發 生 。 即 係 好 似 頭 先
咁 講 一 直 都 以 為 大 學 係 一 個 好 安 全 嘅 地 方 , 呢 樣 嘢 係 好 誇 張 , 嗰 一 刻 係 非 常 之
愕 然 , 當 然 當 刻 你 無 時 間 諗 太 多 , 到 後 尾 你 平 靜 翻 落 嚟 嘅 時 候 你 就 會 諗 , 點 解
會 係 咁 樣 嘅 ? 到 底 點 解 會 咁 樣 發 生 呢 件 事 。 當 然 當 日 就 係 黎 明 行 動 , 其 實 呢 個
地 方 亦 都 係 一 個 主 要 嘅 戰 場 , 然 而 第 一 次 警 察 衝 入 去 大 學 範 圍 裡 面 拉 人 其 實 就
係 呢 個 地 方 , 直 程 嗰 五 六 個 警 察 就 係 揸 住 槍 衝 入 嚟 面 前 嘅 呢 個 位 置 , 指 嚇 喺 理
大 校 園 裡 面 嘅 人 去 離 開 。
嗰 陣 時 裡 面 唔 係 得 示 威 者 , 講 緊 嗰 日 係 要 翻 學 , 其 實 係 有 學 生 , 有 同 學 係 喺 呢
個 位 置 , 嗰 日 就 係 咁 樣 發 生 咗 。 到 後 來 , 即 係 而 家 呢 張 相 係 而 家 嘅 面 貌 啦 , 我
哋 亦 都 見 到 有 閘 機 。 你 問 我 我 就 到 而 家 都 唔 知 道 究 竟 嗰 個 閘 機 係 做 乜 嘢 , 即 係
避 免 理 大 事 件 再 次 發 生 呀 ? 其 實 如 果 理 大 件 事 要 再 度 發 生 嘅 時 候 其 實 都 唔 係 一
個 閘 機 就 擋 到 嘅 事 啦 係 咪 ? 其 實 亦 都 係 印 證 咗 閘 機 呢 樣 嘢 出 現 係 無 實 際 意 義 ,
係 做 出 嚟 俾 人 睇 , 係 呢 間 學 校 做 出 嚟 俾 人 睇 , 佢 哋 係 跟 循 政 府 嘅 步 伐 , 佢 哋 係
要 所 謂 加 強 保 安 俾 香 港 嗰 班 所 謂 嘅 建 制 派 去 睇 , 嗰 班 嘅 保 皇 黨 , 嗰 班 嘅 共 產 黨
去 睇 , 佢 哋 要 歸 隊 嘅 一 個 做 法 。 其 實 係 好 諷 刺 嘅 , 即 係 一 班 所 謂 做 教 育 , 尤 其
是 做 大 學 教 育 嘅 人 唔 係 應 該 係 一 班 好 有 風 骨 , 好 有 氣 節 , 好 有 自 己 堅 持 嘅 人 。
原 來 喺 香 港 呢 個 地 方 , 香 港 呢 個 社 會 環 境 , 無 論 你 係 一 個 咩 位 置 嘅 人 , 你 要 能
夠 喺 自 己 嘅 位 置 度 生 存 你 只 能 夠 做 共 產 黨 隻 狗 , 然 後 就 去 做 一 啲 違 背 良 心 嘅
事 , 違 背 呢 個 地 方 原 則 嘅 事 , 違 背 你 呢 個 身 份 應 該 要 做 嘅 事 , 係 好 可 恥 。
I remember the first day of Operation Daybreak, I was on the university campus, just
outside the university library. There was a policeman pointing a shotgun - just like
the one the ‘bald sergeant’ was wielding - at me, telling me to leave, to turn around.
I looked down the barrel of the gun, and it was... a big shock. It was the first time
someone had pointed a gun at me, and it was in a place I’d always thought safe -
the university. I was beyond shocked, but I didn’t have time to think. Later, when I’d
calmed down, I’d think about why it happened. Of course, it was the day of Operation
Daybreak, and PolyU was a key battleground. It was here that the police first
arrested someone on a university campus - about 5 or 6 policemen rushed in with
their guns and ordered people to evacuate the PolyU campus.
At the time it wasn’t just protesters. It was a school day, so there were students. But
that was how the day went. Later they put up turnstiles like the one in the picture. I
don’t even know what their function is - to prevent the PolyU siege from happening
again? But if it does happen again, these gates won’t do any good, will they? This
shows that the gates are for show; the university is toeing the official line, increasing
security to appease the so-called pro-establishment, loyalists, communists. In
this way they are ‘back in the team’. It’s ironic, because we’ve always thought of
university teachers as people with strong morals and backbones, who can stand up
for what they believe. It turns out that in Hong Kong, no matter what you do, you have
to be a dog of the Communists to survive. You have to go against your conscience,
against the principles that have sustained the city, against what you are supposed to
do in your capacity. It’s a terrible shame.
