songs; his disc of Molfter's Sdrgr (Japanese popular

He attracts much attention as a new type of entertainel
surpassing the classical lield. This is reflected in his
recent appearance singing the rheme song of the film
Princess Mononoke. distributed worldwide by Walt Dis_
ney.
Gerd Tiirk, tenor, received his lirst vocal training with
the Limburger Domsingklaben (Boys, Choir of Limburg
Cathednl). At the Frankfun College of Music he studied
church music and choir direction. Aiier having taught ar
the Speyer lnstirure of Church Music he devoted his
attenlion entirely to singing. Studies of baroque singing
and interpreration with Ren6 Jacobs and Richard Leviti
at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis led to a career as a
sought after singer, touring in Europe, Sourh_East Asia,
the USA and Japan. He has pertbrnred ar major festivals
of early music, e.g. in Bruges, Utrechr, Stuttgart, Lon_
don. Lucerne and Aix-en-provence. Gercl Tiirk has a
great prelerence for ensemble singing. He is a member
ofCantus Cdlln. Gemany,s leading vocal ensemble, and
Gilles Binchois (France), renowned for its interpretation
of medieval music. Gerd Tiirk also teaches singing and
orarorro rnterpretation at the Heidelberg College of
Music.
Peter Kooij, bass. born in 1954, starred his musical
career at the age of six as a choir boy and sang many
solo soprano parts in concerts and on records. However.
he stmed his tbmal musical studies as a violin student.
This was followed by singing tuition from Max van Eg_
mond at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, and
in 1980 he obtained a diploma for solo performance.
Peter Kooij is a regular perfomer at rne most tmportant
festivals in Europe. He has also sung in Israel, South
America and Japan with Philippe Herreweghe, Ton
Koopman, Gustav Leonhardt, Roger Nonington and
Michel Corboz. Since 1995, Peter Kooij has been a professor
of singing ar rhe Sweelinck Conseryatory in Amsterdam.
