songs; his disc of Molfter's Sdrgr (Japanese popular<br />
songs) is available on BIS-CD-906 and a lurrher CD,<br />
Nightiryale, fearures Japanese an songs (BIS-CD-gg9).<br />
He attracts much attention as a new type of entertainel<br />
surpassing the classical lield. This is reflected in his<br />
recent appearance singing the rheme song of the film<br />
Princess Mononoke. distributed worldwide by Walt Dis_<br />
ney.<br />
Gerd Tiirk, tenor, received his lirst vocal training with<br />
the Limburger Domsingklaben (Boys, Choir of Limburg<br />
Cathednl). At the Frankfun College of Music he studied<br />
church music and choir direction. Aiier having taught ar<br />
the Speyer lnstirure of Church Music he devoted his<br />
attenlion entirely to singing. Studies of baroque singing<br />
and interpreration with Ren6 Jacobs and Richard Leviti<br />
at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis led to a career as a<br />
sought after singer, touring in Europe, Sourh_East Asia,<br />
the USA and Japan. He has pertbrnred ar major festivals<br />
of early music, e.g. in Bruges, Utrechr, Stuttgart, Lon_<br />
don. Lucerne and Aix-en-provence. Gercl Tiirk has a<br />
great prelerence for ensemble singing. He is a member<br />
ofCantus Cdlln. Gemany,s leading vocal ensemble, and<br />
Gilles Binchois (France), renowned for its interpretation<br />
of medieval music. Gerd Tiirk also teaches singing and<br />
orarorro rnterpretation at the Heidelberg College of<br />
Music.<br />
Peter Kooij, bass. born in 1954, starred his musical<br />
career at the age of six as a choir boy and sang many<br />
solo soprano parts in concerts and on records. However.<br />
he stmed his tbmal musical studies as a violin student.<br />
This was followed by singing tuition from Max van Eg_<br />
mond at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, and<br />
in 1980 he obtained a diploma for solo performance.<br />
Peter Kooij is a regular perfomer at rne most tmportant<br />
festivals in Europe. He has also sung in Israel, South<br />
America and Japan with Philippe Herreweghe, Ton<br />
Koopman, Gustav Leonhardt, Roger Nonington and<br />
Michel Corboz. Since 1995, Peter Kooij has been a professor<br />
of singing ar rhe Sweelinck Conseryatory in Amsterdam.
