Interactive whiteboards for teaching mathematics
Objective of the thesis
Introducing new technologies into the classrooom is often difficult, because they
require training, clarification and repeated practice. This thesis investigates the
role of interactive whiteboards in the classroom, as well as materials for the
teaching and learning of mathematics.
Methods
The beginning of the thesis consists of a theoretical part, which presents well
known educational media with their advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore,
the technical features of interactive whiteboards are covered. Subsequently, the
thesis explains how teachers could introduce interactive whiteboards and how
teaching materials should be designed. It also describes how a teacher can reuse
traditional materials with this new technology.
The second part of the thesis covers teaching materials for primary, secondary,
and upper secondary education. Selected examples for each age group, which are
particularly suitable for use on interactive whiteboards, are described.
