WITHOUT LIMITS -
THE LIMES CONNECTS
The Limes ist Germany’s largest
and for sure also most well-known
archeological monument.
The Upper Germanic Rhaetian
Limes stretches to a total of 550
kilometers between the rivers Rhine
and Danube, with 120 smaller
or larger castle sites and approximately
900 watch towers. This
boundary line marks the farthest
extension of the two former Roman
provinces Germania Superior
(Upper G.) and Rhaetia. Already
back then the Limes was not only
a separating break and boundary,
it was also a track and communication
line connecting the individual
castle sites. Today the Limes
is like a string of pearls connecting
ancient sights thematically.
THE LIMES TRAIL
The traditional Limes trail follows
the route of the Limes. It combines
nature and history perfectly
and leads one through a diverse
landscape, past the remains of
watchtowers. The most important
of the restorations are equipped
with descriptive information
panels.
