Abstract
This essay discusses the reconstruction of the GWIKU 18 Haizingergasse, and the users’
reaction.
First of all the execution architecture office Treberspurg & Partner and his general orientation
get presented. After a short biography of the office founder Martin Treberspurg, and the
responsible project manager Christian Wolfert, follow two chosen buildings realized by the
office: A large residential neighborhood in Vienna, and a passive house in Canada, who shall
point out the philosophy of the office.
In the second part of the essay, the school itself gets presented. It gets described how the
lacks of free space lead to the reconstruction, how first plans about a new construction were
born, and in the end these plans got circumvented. Problems before and during the
construction get described which lead to a delayed completion. It gets pointed out, which
parts of the building were new, and which parts got reconstructed, and what functions got
packed in to the small building lot. Also all renovation measure since the finishing are listed.
At the end of the chapter the reconstruction gets compared to the reconstruction of a school
at the Parhamerplatz, and the conformity with the current ÖISS guidelines gets examined.
In the last part of the essay the experiences of students and teachers with the building get
described. It gets clarified if the location works out and if the school is easily reachable with
public transports. The schools embedding into its surrounding gets just as well discussed as
the existing free space. The satisfaction with the look of the building and the working places
gets just as well outlined, as the satisfaction with the functionality of the building.
