SVR’s 50th Anniversary at
Deaver Winery

It seems like yesterday that we were celebrating the 25th
anniversary of SVR, but you know how the saying goes; time
flies when you are having fun. And time really flies when you are
having fun in your Porsche!
When the board was considering when and how to celebrate
our region’s 50th, several ideas were offered up and discussed.
PCA National’s Region Focus had quite an extensive review
of the regions’ different approaches over the years. And most
importantly, the one point that rang true was not to be afraid of
trying something different!
With the insight provided by Region Focus, the board decided to
integrate the 50th celebration with our (very successful) annual
Deaver tour, wine tasting and dinner event. With Ron and Bente
Riley already on board to repeat the event in 2012, I volunteered
to work on the “anniversary” part of the event.
Early on, Cookie Anderson, Jerry Cupler, Mike & Emily Willis
volunteered to help with the planning and execution of the event.
Soon thereafter, Jim and Sheila McDade volunteered to lead the
“Tour” part of the event. And Linda (Bradford) volunteered to do
the table decorations.
At our initial meeting, the group came up with a list of things that
needed to be done in advance of the event. In the months that
followed, every detail was considered and addressed, and the end
result exceeded all of our wildest dreams.
Charter members along with long-time supporters of our club
were located, and personalized invitations were mailed to them.
Attendance estimates were “aggressive”, being raised to 150, which
was well above last year’s Deaver event. But as it turned out,
we were totally wrong! Ultimately, we ended up with over 240
attendees, making the anniversary event one of the best attended
SVR events of all time!
We were lucky to have several charter members attend our event.
Those included Read Buckman, Hal and Gail Fandl, Brad and
Judy Hawkes, Bill and Judy Maddock, John and Betty Meunier
and Gary Ogg. We are very appreciative of their attending our
special event.
Also attending were longtime supporters of our club, Wyn &
Linda Robertson (coming from Oregon) and Dwight Mitchell
(coming from Florida!). Another longtime supporter of our club,
Niello Porsche, was represented by Rob Pane and Dustin Aydt.
Past PCA National President Kurt Gibson and his wife Angie
joined us, as they “detoured” from an extended stay in Monterey.
As we found out at breakfast the next morning, Kurt and Angie
are planning on relocating from Missouri to Monterey sometime
very soon.
