Assistant Coaches<br />
Malcolm Nelson is entering<br />
his second season as a member <strong>of</strong><br />
the Livingstone football coaching<br />
staff. Nelson will be responsible<br />
for the team’s running backs this<br />
season.<br />
Nelson got his coaching<br />
start in 2004 at Fort Mill High<br />
School in Fort Mill, South Carolina<br />
where he coached the wide receivers<br />
on the 9th Grade team.<br />
After Fort Mill, Nelson<br />
spent one year coaching the pop<br />
warner 11-12 year old team at the<br />
South Park Youth Athletic Association<br />
in Charlotte, NC.<br />
In January <strong>of</strong> 2007, Nelson<br />
started at three-year stint at<br />
Charlotte Olympic High School in<br />
Charlotte, NC. Nelson coached the<br />
team’s wide receivers and two <strong>of</strong><br />
his players received scholarships<br />
to play football at West Virginia<br />
Wesleyan University. While at<br />
Olympic High School, Nelson also<br />

coached with the Carolina Speed<br />
<strong>of</strong> the American Indoor <strong>Football</strong><br />
Association, during the <strong>of</strong>fseason.<br />
Nelson was the team’s special<br />
teams coordinator and also coached<br />
the wide receivers.<br />
Immediately prior to coaching<br />
at Livingstone, Nelson was the<br />
quarterbacks and wide receivers<br />
coach at North Gaston High School<br />
in Dallas, NC. Nelson made great<br />
strides in improving the passing<br />
game at Gaston and had two wide<br />
receivers voted to the All-Conference<br />
team.<br />
During his fi rst year at Livingstone,<br />
Nelson was responsible<br />
for coaching the defensive line and<br />
was also the team’s video coordinator.<br />

At the beginning <strong>of</strong> his<br />
second year with the Blue Bears,<br />
Nelson got the opportunity to<br />
coach with the fi ve-time Super<br />
Bowl Champion Pittsburg Steelers.<br />
Nelson was the recipient <strong>of</strong><br />
the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship<br />
and for three weeks coached with<br />
the Steelers special teams, working<br />
directly under their Special Team<br />
Coordinator.<br />
As part <strong>of</strong> the fellowship,<br />
Nelson coached the Steelers during<br />
three weeks <strong>of</strong> training camp which<br />
also included two preseason games.<br />
