2011 livingstone football bluebearathletics.com Sports Medicine Athletic Training Room • New Trent • 701 West Monroe Street • Salisbury, NC 28144 Phone: 704-216-6011 • Fax: 704-216-6278 Jaime Kent Head Athletic Trainer Jaime Kent, an Asheville, North Carolina native was hired in August 2008 as the Head Athletic Trainer at Livingstone College. She is a NATABOC certifi ed athletic trainer, and a member of the College Athletic Trainers Society. Jaime is a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Athletic Training. In May, 2008 she received her Masters of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. During this time she was responsible for the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of men’s soccer and baseball athletes at the University of South Carolina and all sports at Benedict College. She also taught four classes in the undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program. Vision Statement: The Livingstone College Sports Medicine Department shall provide a comprehensive health care system for its Division II intercollegiate student-athlete population. This Sports Medicine Department will provide effi cient services with the highest quality of care and professionalism. Dr. Stephen Furr Team Physician Mission Statement: The philosophy of the Livingstone College Sports Medicine Department is a refl ection of the larger mission of the College itself. The concept of a holistic college, treating the mind, body and spirit of the student-athlete will be a priority of the department along with the overall welfare of the student-athlete. A primary goal of the Athletic Department as well as the Sports Medicine Department is to return the athlete to full competition as soon as medically possible and when it is safe to do so. Athletic Training Program: The sports medicine staff provides high-quality, comprehensive care for any sports-related injury or illness. The program is made up of multiple allied health professionals including orthopedic physicians/surgeons and physician assistants, general medical physicians, dentists, ophthalmologists and optometrists and other specialists that may be needed for the care of an athlete’s injury. Once any athlete is evaluated by an athletic trainer on staff, there are specifi c protocols that are followed when involving referral and care of an injury or illness. Role of the Athletic Trainer: The Certifi ed Athletic Trainer is a recognized allied health professional; trained and focused on the prevention of injuries and the treatment of any injuries that may occur. They must pass a national and state certifi cation exam and maintain continuing education credit requirements. In the state of North Carolina a Certifi ed Athletic Trainer must work under the direction of a licensed physician while practicing athletic training. 79
