<strong>Football</strong> Players in the LC Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame<br />

Dr. Roy D. Hudson - Class <strong>of</strong> 2005<br />

Hudson is a native <strong>of</strong> Chattanooga, TN, served in the<br />

U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952 after his freshman year at<br />

Livingstone <strong>College</strong>. Following military service, he re-enrolled<br />

at Livingstone and completed his bachelor’s degree. At Livingstone,<br />

Dr. Hudson earn All-EIAC honors in football and<br />

was voted team captain from 1953-55. After a stellar career at<br />

Livingstone, he was elected to the All-Time All-Livingstone<br />

<strong>Football</strong> Team. Twenty-two men were selected for the fi rst 76<br />

years <strong>of</strong> football at Livingstone <strong>College</strong> as part <strong>of</strong> the Celebration<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Centennial Year <strong>of</strong> Black <strong>College</strong> <strong>Football</strong> in the<br />

United States in 1969. Dr. Hudson, a 1955 Summa Cum Laude<br />

graduate, magnanimously accepted the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

to serve as Interim President <strong>of</strong> Livingstone in 1996.<br />

William K. “Pete” Hunter - Class <strong>of</strong> 2005<br />

Hunter is a native <strong>of</strong> Charlotte, NC. Coach Charlie Cox<br />

recruited Pete to play tailback and linebacker at Livingstone.<br />

While attending LC, Pete also played on the golf team that<br />

placed second in the CIAA tournament in 1966, lettering in two<br />

sports, football and golf.<br />

Romus Jefferies - Class <strong>of</strong> 2002<br />

Jefferies, a graduate <strong>of</strong> the class <strong>of</strong> 1971 and an inductee<br />

for football, is a native and resident <strong>of</strong> Salisbury, NC.<br />

Jefferies earned a number <strong>of</strong> honors playing football including<br />

being named the 1970 Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award winner.<br />

Romus was drafted by the Buffalo Bills after graduation and<br />

after his stint with the Bills, he served as a recreation specialist<br />

in the Michigan State system.<br />

John Robert Edward Kinard - Class <strong>of</strong> 2006<br />

Kinard was a 1963 graduate <strong>of</strong> Hood Theological Seminary.<br />

Kinard excelled in track & fi eld, wrestling, and football as<br />

a student-athlete. He earned All-EIAC as an <strong>of</strong>fensive guard on<br />

the football team. After graduation, he became an assistant coach<br />

for the Blue Bears.<br />

Paul A. Kluttz, Sr. - Class <strong>of</strong> 2004<br />

Kluttz enrolled in Livingstone in 1966 and made an<br />

immediate impact on the Blue Bears football team. He received<br />

the Defensive Player <strong>of</strong> the Year award as a freshman.<br />

As a sophomore, Kluttz was All-CIAA Honorable Mention. He<br />

was the team’s most valuable player in his junior season and a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the 1968-69 All-CIAA Team. As a senior, Paul Kluttz<br />

was the team’s captain and named to the All-NAIA District<br />

26, All-CIAA, and Team MVP. He appeared in 1970 edition<br />

<strong>of</strong> Outstanding <strong>College</strong> Athletes in America. Kluttz received a<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Mathematics degree in 1970 and signed<br />

as a NFL free agent with the Miami Dolphins. He served a brief<br />

stint with the New York Jets.<br />

Larry Lee - Class <strong>of</strong> 2002<br />

A football inductee and a 1976 graduate, is a native <strong>of</strong><br />

Statesboro, GA but a long-time resident <strong>of</strong> Fort Pierce, FL. He<br />

was named to the 1974 All-CIAA <strong>Football</strong> Team as a linebacker.<br />

After graduation, he was drafted by the Denver Broncos. At the<br />

conclusion <strong>of</strong> his pr<strong>of</strong>essional career, he began teaching, coaching<br />

and counseling at Screven County High School in Sylvania,<br />

GA, Fort Pierce High School and Indian River Community <strong>College</strong><br />

in Fort Pierce, FL.<br />

Reverend Harlee Little - Class <strong>of</strong> 2007<br />

Reverend Little was a 1939 graduate <strong>of</strong> Livingstone and<br />

a 1946 graduate <strong>of</strong> Hood Theological Seminary. Little lettered<br />

in football, basketball and baseball at Livingstone. Little was<br />

captain <strong>of</strong> the 1939 championship football team and the 1939<br />

basketball team. After graduation, Little played a major role in<br />

the development and construction <strong>of</strong> New Trent Gymnaisum and<br />

Alumni Memorial Stadium.<br />

John D. Marshall, Jr. - Class <strong>of</strong> 2004<br />

Marshall was born in Bowling Green, Va and is now a<br />

resident <strong>of</strong> Fayetteville, NC. In 1963, Marshall began his collegiate<br />

coaching at Elizabeth City State University and Langston<br />

University prior to coming to Livingstone in 1966. Marshall<br />

also served as co-chair <strong>of</strong> Health and Physical Education Department,<br />

varsity Men’s Tennis Coach and in 1970 he became<br />

Athletic Director.<br />

James Avrose Martin, Sr. - Class <strong>of</strong> 2008<br />

Martin was a member <strong>of</strong> the graduating class <strong>of</strong> 1961<br />

and earned a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts Degree in Elementary Education<br />

from Livingstone. Martin was a member <strong>of</strong> the 1960 football<br />

team that was co-champions <strong>of</strong> the EIAC.<br />

Louis Martin - Class <strong>of</strong> 2003<br />

Martin is a native <strong>of</strong> Woodleaf, NC. Martin graduated<br />

from Livingstone in 1959 with a B.A. in Education. Martin<br />

was a four-year letterman in football at Livingstone and was<br />

named to the All-EIAC in 1956, 1957 and 1958. In 1957 Martin<br />

was awarded the Sidney Green Memorial Award as Livingstone’s<br />

Athlete <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

Larry Melton - Class <strong>of</strong> 2002<br />

Melton, a member <strong>of</strong> the class <strong>of</strong> 1972 and a inductee<br />

for football is a native <strong>of</strong> Washington, DC and a resident <strong>of</strong><br />

Charlotte, NC. Melton was a four-year letterman who was<br />

named the Most Outstanding Freshman and Most Outstanding<br />

Defensive Lineman for two years. Melton is a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> the Joseph Price Heritage Society and <strong>of</strong> the Trustees at<br />

Livingstone <strong>College</strong>.
