Training
Training for the Athletics competition will take place at three venues: Mayesbrook
Park and Newham Sports Complex, both a short distance from the Olympic Park,
and the Olympic Stadium Warm-up Venue, next to the Olympic Stadium. Athletes
will be able to train from 22 August, the day the Paralympic Village opens, until
8 September, the final day of competition in the Olympic Stadium.
Allocation of training sessions
Athletes will be able to train at Mayesbrook Park and Newham Sports Complex
throughout the training times listed in each venue’s section, with no need to book
sessions and no limit on the length of training sessions for each athlete.
Each NPC will be given a two-hour slot at the Olympic Stadium Warm-up Venue
during the pre-competition period for training and familiarisation. There will be a
limit on the number of athletes who are able to use the venue at any one time, so
ambulatory runners and wheelchair racers can train safely on the track and so
that seated and ambulatory throwers can train alongside each other.
Training regulations
Teams are expected to self-regulate their training sessions. If in the opinion of the
personnel responsible for the training venues there are unsafe practices, then the
matter will be brought to the attention of the responsible team official.
Catering services
Refreshment stations for athletes and team officials will consist of unlimited
packaged bottled water and isotonic sports drinks, whole fruit, tea/coffee and
biscuits/energy bars.
Medical services and facilities
Medical services will be provided for athletes at all Games time training venues
during training sessions. The following specialists will be available:
– emergency care physicians
– physiotherapists
– sports massage therapists
