AMATEUR
Becky closed her amateur career on a high and made
huge strides into the professional world with impressive
performances when she was invited to play in two LET
events. She burst onto the scene in her first invitation of
2003 with a second place finish at the Tenerife Ladies
Open behind eventual winner Elisabeth Esterl. Becky
held the lead until the 17th hole of the final round when
she bogeyed and Esterl birdied. In the Wales WPGA
Championship of Europe, she almost pulled off a
spectacular victory with a 70 in the final round but lost
out when Shani Waugh holed from fully 74 feet on the
final green to deny her becoming the first amateur in
19 years to win on Tour. Becky lost out on approximately
£55,000 as she was an amateur in those events but
her future certainly looks promising. Her amateur record
is exemplary – Welsh Girls Champion 1997 and 1998.
Welsh Ladies Champion 1999 and 2001. British Ladies
Open amateur stroke play champion 1999 and 2002.
European Ladies Open Champion 2002. Curtis Cup
