Issues in Corporate Finance This module focuses on the capital<br />
structure of a company and its influence on value.You will learn about<br />
the main sources of funding available during a company’s lifecycle and<br />
how to determine the most appropriate methods of financing.<br />
Issues in Global Political Economy This module encourages you to<br />
think critically about the wider political and economic context in which<br />
all companies operate. You will consider some of the major current<br />
issues, such <strong>as</strong> the global financial system, the role of technology and<br />
conflict over resources.You will gain a broader understanding of global<br />
business and how it is affected by its environment.<br />
Knowledge Ecology and Sustainability A modern global organisation’s<br />
success is no longer so much about money flow, but ‘intellectual capital’<br />
- the knowledge and intelligence of its members, and their capacity<br />
to collaborate.This module helps you to understand the inter-related<br />
elements of knowledge management and organisational learning.<br />
Law and the Corporation A major part of business activity is carried<br />
on via the medium of registered companies, either public or private.This<br />
module introduces the sources of company law and the legal principles<br />
governing the operation of limited companies.You will gain awareness of<br />
the impact of law in relation to the creation and operation of a limited<br />
company, and to corporate activities within the financial market-place.<br />
You will learn to apply your knowledge to particular legal situations in a<br />
business and management context and evaluate legal rulings.<br />
Law and the Individual <strong>The</strong> law provides a framework for the creation<br />
and regulation of business relationships and activities. Building on<br />
the Introduction to <strong>Business</strong> Law, this module examines the specific<br />
are<strong>as</strong> of consumer and employment law, and a company’s legal<br />
duties towards its customers and employees.Through an analysis<br />
of c<strong>as</strong>e studies, you will explore the legal mechanisms involved in<br />
making businesses more accountable for the protection and safety of<br />
consumers and employees.<br />
Luxury Brand Management and International Events This module<br />
introduces the specific and unique characteristics of the luxury goods<br />
industry and the different marketing techniques that are used, with a<br />
focus on luxury events marketing.You will discover the major challenges<br />
that are often faced by luxury companies through contemporary c<strong>as</strong>e<br />
examples that emph<strong>as</strong>ise the actual management of product and service<br />
brands in the luxury business. Guest speakers form a vital part of the<br />
programme.You will learn how to approach problems from a global<br />
perspective, and about innovation and creation, two major components<br />
of development and success in luxury brands internationally.<br />
Macroeconomic Analysis:A B<strong>as</strong>is for International Comparison<br />
This module offers an introduction to macroeconomic analysis,<br />
covering such issues <strong>as</strong> growth, unemployment, inflation and<br />
balance of payments. It will also give you an insight to the purposes<br />
and limitations of fiscal, monetary and supply-side policies.You will<br />
use real economic data to analyse the p<strong>as</strong>t and current economic<br />
performance of countries across the world, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> anticipate<br />
their future performance.<br />
Management Accounting This module introduces the theory and<br />
practice of management accounting and its role in making business<br />
decisions. It is intended primarily for non-accounting students who are<br />
pursuing a one-semester b<strong>as</strong>ic management accounting course.You will<br />
gain an overview of the financial information, conceptual framework and<br />
presentation tools needed for planning, decision making and control.You<br />
will learn to apply management accounting techniques in solving financial<br />
problems, to evaluate the impact of financial decisions on the firm and<br />
formulate strategies within an international business context.<br />
Managerial Economics This module prepares you to think systematically<br />
about micro-economic concepts, and evaluate the economic<br />
environment within which business, government and consumer decisions<br />
are made. It complements other business subjects, such <strong>as</strong> quantitative<br />
methods and accounting, providing you with the tools to fully appreciate<br />
the shocks that may alter the business environment and affect business<br />
decisions in the context of international competition.<br />
Managing the Global Supply Chain This module looks at the<br />
importance of logistics and the management of costs in the supply<br />
chain.You will explore the issues of transport, procurement and<br />
outsourcing, and identify potential risks to the supply chain.You also<br />
learn about the information technology necessary to underpin the<br />
smooth running of the supply chain.<br />
Market Research This module outlines the b<strong>as</strong>ic principles and<br />
processes of market research and their application to practical business<br />
situations.You will learn about the importance of research to effective<br />
marketing decision-making, and explore the main qualitative and<br />
quantitative research techniques.You will gain practical experience<br />
of designing a marketing plan, developing survey questionnaires and<br />
writing a research proposal.<br />
Media Technology for <strong>Business</strong> Today’s business world is built<br />
around the use and exploitation of media technology, such <strong>as</strong> video<br />
conferencing and mobile phone advertising.This module will familiarise<br />
you with the skills and competencies needed for using multimedia<br />
technology, and explore the multi-media industry.You will learn how to<br />
plan, organise and manage a team in preparing a short film project.You<br />
will also learn to operate video camer<strong>as</strong> and other hardware, and use<br />
specialist software to edit video, audio and images.<br />
Mergers and Acquisitions Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) involve the<br />
large-scale reorganisation of industries at the highest level.This module<br />
looks at how the theories of corporate finance, economics, accounting<br />
and financial management work in practice. It also demonstrates how<br />
non-finance subjects such <strong>as</strong> strategy and organisational behaviour can<br />
be applied to real-world financial problems.You will make comparisons<br />
on the M&A phenomenon at company, industry, country and crossborder<br />
levels.<strong>The</strong> module will help you to understand and interpret<br />
the behaviour of capital market, economic systems and ensuing capital<br />
investment flow phenomena.<br />
Multinational Financial Management This module explores the<br />
interpretation, uses and analysis of financial information and the strategic<br />
factors that affect the operations of international organisations.You will<br />
learn about international finance methods at both the strategic and<br />
operational levels and apply them to problem-solving situations.
