letter from the Alumnae Board President
Dear Fellow Alumnae and Friends of Forest ridge,
Happy Spring! It is wonderful to see all of the daffodils and tulips blooming and to
hear the birds singing once again. The Forest ridge campus is particularly lovely this
time of year; if you have not visited and seen the grounds lately, I encourage you to
take a leisurely stroll around campus or visit for lunch. I had the privilege of visiting
the campus recently and found the food delicious and the girls eager to talk. It was a
pleasure to wander the campus and then reflect in the chapel.
This spring, I am especially thankful to our alumnae and friends for your generous, outstanding support of the
“Open your Heart: make a Forest ridge Education Possible” campaign for scholarship endowment. An aweinspiring
26.8 percent of alumnae participated in the effort to match The Bill & melinda Gates Foundation’s
Challenge and helped raise more than $6,100,000. This means when the endowment is fully funded in several
years, Forest ridge can award 24 full-tuition scholarships or many partial scholarships per year. I want to thank
all of you who supported this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Forest ridge– it will have a lasting impact on
generations of girls to come. your participation communicates a key message to the larger school community:
our alumnae care deeply about the future of Forest ridge and believe strongly in the values, education and
tradition that Forest ridge fosters in young women.
We welcomed the graduating seniors into the Forest ridge Alumnae Association and honored distinguished
and honorary alumni at the annual Induction Ceremony and Spring luncheon on may 13 at the Women’s
University Club in downtown Seattle. This year we presented jenny Durkan ’76 with the 2011 Distinguished
Alumna Award and jeanne marie and rhoady lee, jr., with the 2011 Honorary Alumni Award. It was a special
day for all who attended.
Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the event of the season: the annual Alumnae reunion Weekend
beginning October 21, 2011. The weekend will kick off with the Harvest Crush Wine tasting on Friday, October
21, in the Ackerley Conference Center at Forest ridge. It is a fantastic opportunity to see friends, mingle with
faculty and, of course, sample some fine regional wines and cheeses! Following the wine tasting, we will enjoy the
annual reunion Dinner in celebration of all class years. Come to celebrate an anniversary year or to have dinner
with familiar friends. It’s truly a fantastic way to reconnect. Individual class activities will occur on Saturday or
