aaSh conference 30 Mes Amis Spring 2011 AASH - Associated Alumnae of the Sacred Heart - News miami in April was pure pleasure for a Forest ridge contingent starved for sunshine and warmth after a long Pacific Northwest winter. The vibrant colors, ocean breezes, warm days and nights, and the mojitos made the perfect setting for this year’s National AASH conference. What made it even more special was the love and warmth of the Sacred Heart family of alumni from all over the United States and even as far away as Australia and Uganda. most exciting for Forest ridge was that two of our own were recognized as outstanding alumnae: Sue mcPherson lane ’48 was this year’s Western regional Cor Unum honoree for her outstanding service to the Sacred Heart and Karen Patterson ’93 will be the AASH board recording Secretary for the 2011-2013 term. AASH holds a national conference every two years. Alumnae from around the country gather to continue ongoing communication among alumnae and their respective associations as well as promote the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and other ministries served by the Society of the Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart sisters - and now brothers - travel from around the country to share school information and re-energize each other in the mission. The conferences are a very special time, filled with love and passion for the work started by St. madeleine Sophie more than 200 years ago. This year’s conference theme was "Celebrate Cor Unum - living Sophie and Philippine's Vision into tomorrow." The Carrollton School in miami, where Sr. Suzanne Cooke is Head of School, hosted this fabulous event. many of the rSCjs spoke on spiritual topics and on Sts. madeleine Sophie and Philippine Duchesne; Carrolton alumnae speakers lectured on their work, including a tribeca award winning documentary on Down Syndrome, and others which chronicled Florida’s first surgeon general as well as a New york times bureau chief. The highlight was a spectacular party hosted by the Carrolton School, tropical Night Under The Stars. That was a night to remember! Best of all was seeing Sue and her family: husband Dr. jim lane and her daughters, margaret lane ’78, mary jo lane O’Donnell ’82, and Sue’s daughter-in-law, Kim, dancing the night away as they shared in the love of the Sacred Heart that has meant so much to their family. Forest ridge has been asked to host the next Western regional AASH Conference in Seattle in the summer of 2012.
