elbow is similar to its
counterpart, tennis elbow. The primary
differences between these conditions are
the location of the pain
and the activity that leads
to injury.
However, both conditions
are caused by overuse of
the muscles and tendons
of the forearm, leading to
inflammation and pain around
the elbow joint. Tennis and golfer’s
elbow are both forms of tendonitis.
Tennis elbow can start with a dull
ache on the outside of the elbow and
within several weeks or months, the pain a n d
tenderness can increase and just pressing on the
elbow can hurt. The pain of golfer’s elbow is usually
at the elbow joint on the inside of the arm; a shooting
sensation down the forearm is also common while
gripping objects.
muscles are not used to doing a certain activity,
such as gardening or decorating. However, even if
you use your forearm muscles frequently, you can
still injure them. They are both considered selflimiting
illnesses but can
persist for 1-2 years or
even longer. Conventional
treatments will include
cortisteroid injections,
analgesics, exercise, rest and
even surgery but Chinese acupuncture
and massage can help considerably to relieve
the pain associated with these conditions. Deep
massage can help reduce pain, improve blood flow
to the surrounding area, and prevent the formation
of scar tissue and adhesions in the connective tissue
while Acupuncture will stimulate nerves located in
muscles and other tissues which release endorphins.
The positive effect in combating pain and symptoms
can also last longer than other treatments.
Acupuncture was originally used as an anesthetic to
relieve pain and aims to keep the body’s yin and yang
balanced, encouraging good energy flow through
stimulating specific points in the body.
