1. OH&S and Taxi Driving
As a new Taxi Driver you have a very important role in Occupational Health and Safety
(OH&S).
OH&S is about making sure that the workplace is a safe and healthy place to work. In the
Taxi Industry our workplace includes our taxi vehicle. As a Taxi Driver you must make sure
that your work is as safe as possible. This means safe for our passengers, safe for Taxi
Drivers and safe for other road users.
Under the NSW OH&S Laws it is the responsibility of everyone involved in the workplace
to promote health and safety for workers, customers and other members of the public. This
means that taxi drivers must follow good health and safety practices. If you don’t use good
safety practices in the workplace, you not only risk injury to yourself and others but may
also be driving illegally. There are severe penalties for not adhering to requirements of the
OH & S Act, you may break the law and can be fined or even jailed.
