NSW Charter of Victims Rights
Victims of crime in NSW have a Charter of Victim’s Rights to protect and promote their
rights. The Charter establishes standards for the appropriate treatment of crime.
The Charter places a statutory obligation upon government agencies to ensure that a
victim is at all times treated with courtesy and compassion, and that their rights and dignity
are respected.
Among other things, the Charter recognises the rights of a victim to:
information about, and access to welfare, health and counselling services
privacy and protection
information about the investigation of the crime, the prosecution of the accused and
the trial process.
To find out more information about the NSW Charter of Victims Rights go to the Website
