Waverley Dowsers meet in Godalming to hear a variety of dowsing related subjects for example finding ley lines, applications in the garden, finding lost objects and healing. Members come from Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire and occasionally from Sussex and SE London and everyone is most welcome. Not only are talks promoted but field days are organised to hear and learn about this ancient science. In the UK there are special interest groups which cover topics such as archaeology, checking for allergies, finding ley lines, using dowsing in the garden and in alternative medicine, finding water and lost objects and research. They have speakers on these and other topics. Everyone has the ability to dowse and dowsers are generally more in tune with the environment. Some groups just specialize; for example Hampshire Archaeological Dowsers specialise in dowsing historically and have made some important contributions to archaeology in Hampshire. Membership currently includes horticulturalists, accountants, engineers, healers from various disciplines and retired people. One member, using some skills learnt via the British Society of Dowsers, has had one of his books on dowsing reproduced in French. Runners are being urged to sign up for this year’s Brighton Marathon in aid of Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance to help fund the charity’s plans for night flying. It costs £5 million a year to keep both helicopters flying during daylight hours but this figure will rise to £6 February 2013

At the time of writing, The Air Ambulance has 23 charity places available for runners who can commit to raising a minimum of £500. Among this year’s entrants is Karen Allnutt, from West Hythe, who was airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision two years ago. She said: “This will be a personal challenge for me and is a perfect opportunity to raise valuable funds for the Air Ambulance. It was an easy choice for me and I’m pleased to say that with many thanks to them I have made a fantastic recovery.” All Air Ambulance entrants will be given an opportunity to visit the helicopter base and meet the pilot, doctor and paramedic, subject to emergency call-outs. They will also receive a fundraising pack including sponsor forms, support and advice from the charity’s fundraising team, a training guide and an Air Ambulance running vest. Community Fundraiser Amy Salter said: “Last year we had 47 runners and we would love to double that in 2013. Then it is time to put it through its paces from the banks of the Wey & Arun Canal. A photo competition with the theme of “Life on the Wey & Arun Canal” is organised by the Wey & Arun Canal Trust (WACT) and winners will not only be in line for a prize but also get to see their work printed in the 2014 calendar. The competition is free to enter and the theme was selected in a bid to inspire people to explore the people, places, flora and fauna that make up the canal environment, and also to share images that have been taken throughout the year. The Trust hopes to use the best images to reflect the different seasons in the 2014 calendar, which will be sold to help raise funds for the continuing restoration work on the canal. The deadline for entries to the photographic competition, which can be submitted as prints, on a CD or DVD or by email, is 28th February 2013 and winners will be announced this spring.
