CHAPTER THREE<br />
It was interesting the way in which I and my future husband<br />
finally met, although it seemed there had been several attempts<br />
by the ‘powers that be’ to bring this about. In the end we were<br />
introduced by a man, a man known to both of us, who said he<br />
had a strong conviction, a hunch, that he was meant to be the<br />
means of bringing us together. It just goes to show we should<br />
follow our hunches, or at least not discard them without due<br />
thought; and no one should count himself too insignificant to<br />
be a tool in the scheme of things. At one time I used to have a<br />
most depreciating attitude regarding my own abilities, having<br />
a tendency to listen to others—believing they knew the<br />
answers much better than I, and I suffered thereby. These<br />
days I realize I must stand or fall by my own beliefs and<br />
actions; thus I have gained a large measure of self-confidence.<br />
So the first time Carl and I came together was on a Satur-<br />
day, in September, and there was a mutual feeling that we<br />
had been together before. It was as though each of us had<br />
returned from a journey and were about to continue life where<br />
we had left off after having been away on our respective mis-<br />
sions. On that first day and in the days which followed I would<br />
find myself starting to say something . . . perhaps making a<br />
comment, or asking a question . . . and then I would halt to<br />
say, ‘But I have said that before,’ or ‘I have asked that ques-<br />
tion before.’<br />
Where and when had we known each other? Since those<br />
days I believe I have become more enlightened on the subject<br />
and I have often wished I had possessed a little more of the<br />
knowledge and understanding which has been permitted me in<br />
