CHAPTER ELEVEN<br />
There was one important event occurred while we were living<br />
in the Weybridge area and that was the wedding of Princess<br />
Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the Princess who is now Queen<br />
Elizabeth the Second. It was a particularly happy moment to<br />
be standing on the bridge at the foot of St. George's Avenue to<br />
watch the Royal train pass by, bearing the honeymoon couple,<br />
who were off to spend part of their honeymoon with their<br />
relatives, Lord and Lady Mountbatten. It was a dreary day in<br />
November, with rain hampering those who were bent on wit-<br />
nessing this delightful spectacle, this exciting moment. Where-<br />
ever Royalty is to be found you can be sure of finding a host<br />
of happy Britishers. The British care very much for their kings<br />
and queens and they revel in all the pageantry the monarchy<br />
entails.<br />
One had to make the most of each event, there were so few<br />
on which to feast the eyes.<br />
At one period during the war Sir Winston Churchill's<br />
daughter, Mary, spent some time in the area, together with<br />
others who were in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. At one<br />
time these A.T.S. seemed to be everywhere. One supposes<br />
they were down there to receive certain training. Later Miss<br />
Churchill (the youngest daughter of the Churchill’s) married<br />
Christopher Soames, now Sir Christopher.<br />
Much of our time was spent in reading and listening to the<br />
radio and at that time Shaw Desmond's work was popular, as<br />
were the books of Paul Brunton, a serious and interesting<br />
writer. Carl enjoyed things bordering on the occult and meta-<br />
physical and I gradually became interested in the subjects. At<br />
