have heard the remark, ‘I feel closer to my dog than I do to<br />

many humans,’ or, ‘The more I see of people the more I love<br />

my dog.’ It has been said that, what you can visualize—CAN<br />

BE. He who can see the invisible can achieve the impossible.<br />

I would like to quote an extract from Alice in Wonderland<br />

because it is so applicable, and it helps one to believe in so-<br />

called impossible things : ‘Alice laughed. “There's no use try-<br />

ing” she said. “One can't believe in impossible things.” “I<br />

daresay you haven't had much practice”, said the Queen.<br />

“When I was younger I always did it for half-an-hour a day.<br />

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible<br />

things before breakfast.” ’<br />

Who would believe that at one time cats walked upright, on<br />

two legs? Well I have an idea that, according to cat legends,<br />

they did indeed; and they used to engage in numerous activi-<br />

ties which would surprise the human of today.<br />

Within a few short months, T. Catt grew to become a beau-<br />

tiful specimen, and I used to say he reminded me of a Tiger<br />

Lily—he had the markings of a tiger and the delicate appear-<br />

ance of a lily. The expression on his sweet face was really .<br />

quite angelic.<br />

As the days passed we gradually realized that when you<br />

adopt a creature of nature, giving it the trust and affection it<br />

deserves, you will not be disappointed—for nature people are<br />

capable of returning your devotion many times over. I will<br />

never forget how much I owe my Silver Tabby, my Tiger<br />

Lily.<br />

Since we were so very isolated in our personal life, the day<br />

we became the possessors of a little automobile was quite an<br />

event. The Managing Director of the company expected Carl<br />

to service his cars as well as attending the advisory work<br />

relating to students (the position for which he had been en-<br />

gaged), and I became quite proficient as a mechanic's assist-<br />

ant. Once I helped to change over the engine of a car—I hope<br />

I can remember the ‘make’; yes, it was a Standard, and by<br />

today's standards, probably considered quite ancient.<br />

The gentleman also owned a beautiful black Chrysler, and<br />

being something of a speed fiend he caused pedestrians to leap<br />
