L. J. Brady, roundhouse foreman, has<br />
returned from Birmingham where he<br />

R. J. Slagle, agent and yardmaster,<br />

ing agents meeting.<br />
Dally local servlce between Jones-<br />
boro and Thayer each way has been<br />
discontinued and local freight will<br />
leave Jonesboro for Thayer every other<br />
day in future.<br />
George Barbee, local conductor,<br />
whose run was discontinued on Jones-<br />
boro Thayer local, has bumped I. Z.<br />
Pierce, conductor on Jonesboro-3Iem-<br />
phis local freight train 247-246.<br />
T. A. Parr, conductor on B. & S. W.<br />
branch local. is taking a few days' va-<br />
cation at Eagle Pass, Texas. visiting<br />
relatives, and enjoying a much needed<br />
rest on account of ill health. I. Z.<br />
Pierce is relieving Mr. Parr on the B.<br />
& S. W. branch.<br />
<strong>The</strong> radish movement on the Jones-<br />
boro sub of the River division from<br />
Monett, Black Oak, and Senath is al-<br />
most over, the radishes were not as<br />
good quality this year as last, how-<br />
ever there were about sixty cars ship-<br />
ped to northern markets, bringing<br />
fair returns.<br />

are glad to report that Mr. Fowler is<br />
somewhat improved.<br />
Mrs. A. S. Cowan, wife of special<br />
agent. was called to Montgomery. Ala..<br />

In St. Louis hospital where he went for<br />
an operation. We trust Nr. Thomp-<br />
son will soon be able to return.<br />
Mrs. Sallie Morton, mother of de-<br />
murrage clerk, J. A. Morton, is in<br />
Nashville. Tenn., where she was called<br />
account of illness.<br />
Mrs. S. A. Griffin, wife of switchman,<br />
is visiting in Shilo. Ga.<br />
J. H. Sudduth, crossing flagman, is<br />
conflned to the hospital in St. Louis<br />
account of an eye operation.<br />
J. H. Johnson, demurrage clerk, has<br />
gone to Columbus, Ohio. as a delegate<br />
to the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks<br />
Convention. Mr. Johnson will also<br />
visit in Toledo and Cincinnati while<br />
away.<br />
Mrs. J. R. Eddings, wife of crossing<br />
flagman, is visiting relatives in Chat-<br />
tanooga. Tenn. Mr. Eddings is visit-<br />
ing in Salisbury. N. C.<br />
<strong>The</strong> election held .on April 26 to de-<br />
termine whether or not Birmingham<br />
should have Sunday movies was defeat-<br />
ed by a very large majority.<br />

Bennie C. Dennis, assistant bill and<br />
voucher clerk, tendered his resignation,<br />
effective Nay 15, and left us to accept<br />
a position with the Tennessee Coal<br />
Iron & Railroad Company. We are<br />
very sorry to lose Ben as a fellow co-<br />
worker, but all join in wishing him<br />
every success in his new work.<br />
we have been enjoying lovely weath-<br />
er lately, with the exception of one or<br />
two little flurries, when the tempera-<br />
ture dropped to a low point. <strong>The</strong>se,<br />
however, we attribute tothe fact that<br />
Mr. H. L. Bird wore his light suit and<br />
that nifty new straw hat, which he is<br />

Accident prevention merit cup is<br />
with us again, this cup having been<br />
awarded to Memphis terminal for the<br />
first quarter of <strong>1928</strong>. <strong>The</strong> cup was ours<br />
for the third quarter of 1927. after<br />
which it was awarded to the Western<br />
division for the fourth quarter. We<br />
now aspire towards keeping the cup<br />
with us for three consecutive quarters.<br />
Mrs. H. C. Barnett, wife of chief<br />
clerk. is visiting in Wallace. Kansas. as<br />
the guest of her parents.<br />
Sam J. Allen. Jr.. a brand new baby<br />

Mrs. T. E. Bryant, wife of cashier's<br />
clerk, vislted relatives in <strong>Springfield</strong>,<br />
Jlissouri, recently.<br />
Billy Corliery, young son of our<br />
chief clerk, TIr. F. Corkery, has fully<br />
recovered from quite a long spell of<br />
illness, and has returned to school.<br />

Mrs. Frank Torina, on return from<br />
her honeymoon, and on a visit down to<br />

brother.<br />
