THE RACE FOR BROWARD SHERIFF continued from page 17
Bruce Udolf (DEM)
I believe we are at a critical juncture in the
history of Broward County. Our community is
plagued by the perception and reality of scandal
and corruption. Everyday, we hear stories of law
enforcement officers committing crimes. If our
residents, and just as importantly, people from
outside of Broward who may be looking to
vacation, relocate or invest here, perceive that
we are plagued by scandal and corruption they
will choose to leave or not come at all. That
would mean less funding, depressed property values, less police coverage
and increased crime. We cannot afford such a future. I believe we have
another choice.
When I first heard of the scandals in the Broward Sheriff ’s Office it
made me sick, because I have spent my life battling corruption. I knew I
had the ability and experience to help our community fix our problem.
I’ve spent most my career as both a state and federal prosecutor fighting
crime and corruption. As the Justice Department’s top corruption
prosecutor in South Florida, I’ve led some of the nation’s largest
investigations and prosecutions- targeting violent crime, corruption,
narcotics, organized crime, and racketeering. I‘ve been recognized by,
and received commendations from, the FBI, DEA, ATF, Customs
Service and the U.S. Department of Justice for my work, especially in
anti-corruption, political and law enforcement corruption, and public
integrity. I’ve trained thousands of law enforcement officers and
prosecutors to not only fight crime, but to do it with the highest ethical
standards.
Having overseen large law enforcement organizations, I have the
administrative and political skills that will also be necessary to meet
challenges. With over 6,300 employees and a seven hundred million
dollar plus budget, we need someone to lead the BSO who has law
enforcement and political skills, administrative experience, and a record
of expertise in public integrity to lead us back to where we belong.
We can choose to fight crime with integrity; we can raise our
community to the highest ethical standards. We can expect more out of
the men and women who are there to serve and protect us. I believe all of
this is possible and I believe that I am the best candidate to make that
possibility a reality.
