History and Education Committee 2010 Honors Winners
This item arrived too late for inclusion in the final 2010 edition of the
Skirmish line. We include it here.
Each year the N-SSA History and Education Committee recognizes
both an individual and team that have worked to educate the public
about the War Between the States.
Contributions to this effort are recognized through the Lee Wallace
History Award and often cover several years of work. Reports are retained
and reviewed each year. Award winners are announced during
opening ceremonies at the Fall National Skirmish.
The 2010 Individual Award was presented at the 2010 Fall National by
Committee Chairman John Zebelean to Mark Dennis, lst Maine Heavy
Artillery, while the Unit Award went to the Dismal Swamp Rangers.
With the Civil War Sesquicentennial Observance upon us, there are
numerous opportunities to make presentations in our communities
about the War. Talks to schools and participation in public ceremonies
are typical venues to talk to people who in many instances know little
about the events of 1861-65.
