When buying or
selling, don’t forget
the ‘sizzle’ factor

Whether buying or selling a house, the
“sizzle” factor can make the difference.
Maybe it’s being able to see out to a
bench in a shady spot in the backyard
as one enters the front door. Maybe it’s
an arrangement of candles drawing the
eye to a tiled back splash in the kitchen,
or a glass jar filled with clothing pins in
an otherwise bare laundry room.
A hint of possibilities. A touch of,
well, sizzle.
Suzie Rotter of Clear Skies Realty
said the key to buying or selling a house
is whether “someone can picture their
own stuff in it.”
She recommends decluttering and
depersonalizing a house – but don’t denude
it. “Use little things that create a
difference.”
And leave the premises. Sure it’s
your house, but buyers feel uncomfortable
assessing a future home when the
present owners are there, Rotter said.
“People want to wander freely,” she
said.
Beyond the decorative simple
touches, there are bigger items buyers
seem to especially like right now, Rotter

sinks, walk-in pantries and water softeners.
Rotter said she has great hopes for
the housing market in Maricopa.
“I know some people are concerned
we’re turning into a town of rentals, but
I just don’t see it. People are still looking
for a small town and a good-priced
home to raise their family.”
She added: “We’re done with the
exodus of people caught up in the sub
prime problems; now we’re building a
foundation.”
