EDUCATION BRIEFS
MuSD trains on the concept of
backward Design
Maricopa Unified School District
held a two-day workshop and training
session recently for nearly 50 employees
on the concept of Backward Design
in education, which analyzes the 12th
grade requirements and expectations
working back to kindergarten to define
requirements for each grade.
“Professional development is a key
initiative for our district this year and
training on such analytical methods to
define the scope of work per grade levels
allows our staff to set expectations
for students in a different manner than
that which they may be accustomed,”
Deputy Superintendent Ember Conley
said.
This training, based on the book
“Understanding by Design” by Grant
Wiggins and Jay McTighe, is one of
a series of professional development
