Act I, Scene 1 23
All Rich, damp; richy damp cake
Hook Poor little Lost Boys easily led
All Rich, damp; richy damp cake
Hook One little bite and you’ll find them dead.
Smee (speaking)Then what d’y’do, Cap’n?
Hook (singing)Then we’ll put it in the oven
And wait till it has risen
And cover it with sugar that is green
And in case there’s not enough
Of that lovely sickly stuff.
Smee (speaking) Add a little more strychnine?
Hook Shut up!
And then to make it gleam
Smooth on the poisonous cream
And place it by the mermaids’ lake
For they don’t have a mother
A sister or brother
To warn them not to eat my
Rich damp cake.
Chorus II
All Rich, damp; richy damp cake
Hook Fatal to boy, girl, mermaid or man
All Rich, damp; richy damp cake
Hook By Davy Jones we’ll finish off Pan!
Then follows an instrumental verse and the pirates’ dance routine. The pirates break upstage,
singing harmoniously
For they don’t have a mother
A sister or a brother
To warn them not to eat my
Rich damp cake.
Repeat Chorus I followed immediately by Chorus II
The song ends triumphantly
Hook Well, what are you standing around here for? Go to it, you swabs.
The pirates scatter and exit immediately leaving Smee and Hook alone
And most of all, Smee, I want their captain, Peter Pan. ‘Twas he cut off my arm. (he brandishes
his hook) I’ve waited long to shake his hand with this. Oh, I’ll tear him.
Smee And yet I have often heard you say that one hook was worth a score of hands for combing the
hair and other homely uses.
Hook (ignoring Smee) Peter flung my arm to a crocodile that happened to be passing by. Do you
know that?
