Château beau Séjour bécot, St Émilion
“My favorite Beau-Séjour-Bécot to date, this sumptuous, dense
blue/purple-hued 2009 reveals a blockbuster nose of blueberry
pie, black fruits, licorice, forest floor, spring flowers and a hint
of mocha. With an unctuous texture, full-bodied power and
tremendous levels of tannin (largely concealed behind a cascade
of rich fruit), this is a fabulous effort from a beautifully situated
St.-Émilion premier grand cru classé. It will need 5-8 years of
cellaring, and should keep for three decades.”
Château beauséjour Duffau, St Émilion
“This big wine is a blend of 77% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc
and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. It boasts an opaque blue/purple
color along with a gorgeous bouquet of charcoal, incense,
truffles, blackberry jam, black currants, raspberries and flowers.
While enormous in the mouth, the limestone soils in which the
grapes are grown give the wine good freshness as well as laserlike
clarity and precision. Amazing to taste, this massive, superconcentrated
powerhouse comes across as ethereal and almost
feminine despite its extravagant fruit, density and richness.”
Château bélair Monange, St Émilion
“This extraordinary terroir, now exploited by Edouard Moueix,
the son of Christian, seems to be coming to life in a dramatic
fashion. Never a hedonistic wine, but very intellectual, the
2009 suggests a liqueur of crushed rocks intermixed with black
currants and black cherries. Still somewhat closed, medium
to full-bodied, and impressive rather than seductive, this is a
structured wine that needs to be forgotten for at least a decade,
and then drunk over the following 30+ years.”
