of Agro-Processing Centres have been developed.
Additional income and employment contributes to
capital formation and stimulation to increased
production and productivity, acquisition of modern
equipment and machinery. It is a forward linkage that
grows with mechanization in agriculture providing
incentives to investments in increasing production and
productivity.
2.2 Policy and Legislative
2.2.1 Mechanization Policy: Agricultural
mechanization is a relatively less regulated sector.
Increasingly need for agricultural mechanization have
been demanded and discussed in legislative and policy
making bodies. Perceptions vary but the most common
description of agricultural mechanization needed in India
is appropriate selective mechanization which brings

drudgery. National Commission on Agriculture (NCA)
made stipulations on agricultural mechanization. High
powered committees appointed by GOI have given
direction the subject. National Agricultural Policy
(NAP) amplifies agricultural policies. A draft
agricultural mechanization policy has been worked out
jointly by Machinery Division, DAC, GOI, which needs
to be nationally agreed and adopted.
2.2.2 Standardization & Certification: To protect
the farmers’ interests from introduction of inappropriate
trouble some equipment in Indian market, GOI has
requirement of testing and certification by DAC which
is carried out its Testing and Training Institutes at Budni
and Hissar. As a mark of standardization and quality
BIS standards are there on farm equipment, ISI
certification on critical components and machines. There
is a long list of such standards. BIS standards are steadily
getting closer to ISO where available.
